Dec-10-13 | | waustad: If I'm reading it right the next Austrian Bundesliga weekend will be played in Wolfsberg, so it will be more convenient than the last which was most of the way to Innsbruck. Austria isn't all that big, but it isn't even slightly flat which complicates things, particularly in the Winter. Here is a line from the chess-results download: [Site "Jenbach, Wolfsberg, St. Veit/Glan"] If they play Round 5 in the German Frauenbundesliga on the scheduled date, many of the top boards on many of the teams will be in Gibraltar, so the deeper team is at an advantage. Both Muzychuk sisters and Viktorija Čmilytė will be at Gibraltar, though I don't see Anna Zatonskih or Ketino Kachiani-Gersinska or Elena Sedina on the list. Anna Z. has been the defacto top board anyway, so they should do alright. How many people will travel very far for one game is another issue, and Deizisau is mostly German players. Some of the teams opted to play matches on the second weekend of the season, but not Baden Baden and Deizisau, even though they played at the same venue both of the first two weekends. Perhaps the latter declined an offer to play the round early because they would be at full strength on 26.01.2013, while their opponents would not be. That last is just speculation on my part. |

Dec-13-13 | | waustad: I got an app from chessbase that includes a lot of games, some of which I hadn't seen before. I was always interested in the game between Pia Cramling and EM that started one of the latter's poorer performances in a Greek team tournament, partly because it was a game between two of my all time favorite players. It isn't pretty. I'm not all that sold on the app, but for about $5.00 it gives me a lot of information that is useful so I can't complain too much. I expect that as an opening analysis tool it will be quite valuable. Since I'm mainly a fan not a player now it is probably sufficient. |
Dec-17-13 | | waustad: Since Anna Muzychuk is officially from right across the border from Austria it is interesting that I don't recall her ever playing there. Many Slovenian native players are in Austrian tournaments all of the time and Austrian players are often in leagues in the former Yugoslav countries and other neighboring countries. Does she live in Slovenia or is she like Fabiano Caruana and many others who just have a convenient nationality but live wherever they want? She's near the top in women's chess, so maybe playing nearby isn't what pays the bills for her. This week she's in Beijing, next week? |
Dec-19-13 | | waustad: She appears to have dropped out of the Wolfsberg Open. Hopefully it is just a time issue and nothing more serious. |
Dec-20-13 | | Lingfield Grove: Indeed. It's a long time to save herself for the Graz tournament next February. |
Dec-20-13 | | waustad: She has at times played in Aschach at the Donau Open, which is at about the same time, but I doubt that that is the issue. I suspect that having a job will keep taking up more time. She did say that she's the editor of a chess magazine not a professional player now. |
Dec-26-13 | | Lingfield Grove: A few Austrian masters in lineup at Donau but no EM.Probably having a quiet festive season for a change. |
Dec-26-13 | | waustad: She is on the list for the Internationales Casino Open Graz 2014 A-Turnier in mid February, which looks to be quite strong. http://chess-results.com/tnr107256.... |
Jan-08-14 | | whiteshark: Congrats for her fine victory of the <IV. Internationales Senator-Max-Gutmann> tournament in Augburg. With 7.5/9 points she got her 1st GM norm. Pictural chessbase report with analysis: http://de.chessbase.com/post/eva-mo... |
Jan-08-14 | | waustad: Thanks for the info! The picture on chessbase was from the Dresden Olympiad where Alejandro Ramirez played for Costa Rica if I recall. The picture with an accompanying article here: http://www.chess.at/ is from the Vienna Chess Ladies. Here is another article about it: http://www.chess-international.de/?.... |
Jan-08-14 | | waustad: Here is also an article from an Augsburg paper from before the tournament: http://www.augsburger-allgemeine.de... Congrats on the win and the Norm! |
Jan-09-14 | | waustad: It seems she's also taken up blindfold simuls, though the article was written before the event it doesn't tell how she did. I haven't found complete games for the tournament that are downloadable, but the partial games she added comments to for chessbase are interesting. One with 5 queens and a 7 hour win over the highest rated player in the tournament are particularly notable. |
Jan-09-14 | | Lingfield Grove: So much for my guess that she was having a festive break! Really good win in a lovely city. Here's to a successful 2014 and more GM norms. |
Jan-11-14 | | waustad: She now has a Wikipedia entry in English. For a long time she only had a German page. |
Jan-11-14 | | waustad: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eva_Mo... |
Jan-19-14 | | waustad: Here is a review of her Benoni video: http://de.chessbase.com/post/reti-d... |
Jan-19-14 | | Lingfield Grove: Nice to see her Augsburg win featured in the Wiener Schachzeitung. |
Jan-19-14 | | waustad: There are now some Augsburg games on chess365. I ran into her win against today's POTD so continued the search. Looking a little further they have 5 of her games and a few more from other players. |
Jan-19-14 | | waustad: I wrote up some stuff about her opening choices in Augsburg but forgot to submit it. Suffice it to say her repertoire looked more like what she played before going to grad school. |
Jan-21-14 | | waustad: This looks like a possible tournament for EM: http://www.frauenschachfestival-erf... It is not until Summer, but they seem to want to get enough GMs there to make GM norms possible. The following makes me think that they have Moser in mind: Für das Großmeisterturnier ist die Teilnahme von Europameisterin Valentina Gunina (Russland) sowie weiterer internationaler Spitzenspielerinnen aus Armenien, Österreich, Ungarn und Polen geplant. |
Jan-25-14 | | waustad: The next Austrian Bundesliga rounds are from Thursday Jan 30th through Sunday Feb 2nd. These will be in Wolfsberg if I read something right a while ago. Thursday's round is at 16:00 CET, with 14:00 starting times for the middle rounds and 10:00 on Sunday. Again, this assumes I read something correctly in the header of a downloaded game, but the final weekend should be in St. Veit like last year, this time starting on March 20th. |
Jan-26-14 | | waustad: I suspect that the Bundesliga schedule may be one reason that Austrians aren't going to Gibraltar. |
Jan-30-14 | | waustad: She isn't playing today for Wolfsberg. |
Jan-31-14 | | waustad: She isn't playing today either for Wolfsberg or for the Schachamazonen. That seems strange since hers was the picture they used for the item mentioning the rounds 4-7: http://www.chess.at/ |
Feb-01-14 | | waustad: Last Sunday she lost her game in the FBL to Vera Nebolsina. It has been a strange few months for her, winning a tournament and gettin a GM norm but having trouble in team tournaments. Baden Baden won the match anyhow: http://www.chess-international.de/?... |
