Apr-08-12  waustad: She is now +3 -3 =0 at the Neckar, all against lower rated players.
Jun-03-12  waustad: With idols like Adams and Leko one might expect a higher percentage of draws, but we really don't see a very large percentage of the games from most 2300+ players.
Jun-05-12  waustad: I never met Franklin, but was once introduced to Crick in San Diego. Let's hear it for TD Publishing Co.
Jul-19-12  waustad: Here is a link to her web site: http://www.melanie-ohme.de/melanie-...
Dec-28-12  waustad: She has had a very good start at Erfurter Frauen-GM-Turnier with 2.5/3. The other two players with 2/2 both lost so now she is in the lead. Games can be found here for now: http://steffanklaus.de/frauen_gm_tu...

perfidious: Wonder whether this young lady is first cousin to Ohmy.....even found a couple with that surname here in good old USA.

http://www.whitepages.com/name/Ohmy/

Feb-20-13  waustad: For anybody interested in games from the Frauenbundesliga, you'll probably have to look into finding them via the club websites. I finally ran across games for Baden Baden here: http://www.rochade.de/live.htm Perhaps it depends on the site where games are played, I'm not sure. I saw some for Hamburg a while ago but I don't now know the link. They may be ephemeral.
Dec-24-13  BIDMONFA: Melanie Ohme

Dec-25-13  waustad: Vlastimil Hort invited her to play next year as a "Snowdrop" and it appears that she accepted. this was on the video from the chessbase Xmas party.
Dec-25-13  John Abraham: <waustad: Vlastimil Hort invited her to play next year as a "Snowdrop" and it appears that she accepted. this was on the video from the chessbase Xmas party.>

Yes, here is the chessbase report:
http://en.chessbase.com/post/2013-c...

Dec-26-13  waustad: I looked again at her website: http://www.melanie-ohme.de/ and she now has it in both German and English, which opens up a lot of markets. She was in Bath UK doing some sort of class for a while and took lots of pictures and wrote up her activities. Perhaps she's interested in a career like Alina L'Ami or Anastasya Karlovich. For that, Russian fluency would be a help since most educated German speakers seem to do fine in English.
Dec-26-13  John Abraham: She seems to love traveling and experiencing new people and places. She is an intelligent, eloquent, and affable young lady. Her photography is great and her blogs are enjoyable to read. She's as natural in front of the camera as behind it. And her chess skills are of course excellent with an eye for analysis. I can imagine her taking photographs of tournament halls and beautiful landscapes and interesting people, interviewing players and organizers, writing reports for Chessbase or other chess websites, etc. while at the same time having a successful career as a chess player
Dec-26-13  TheFocus: When she meditates, she just uses her name as her mantra.
Dec-26-13  bien pensant: When I think of Ohme, I think of a place where there's love and affection.
Dec-26-13  bien pensant: Ohme sweet ohme.
Dec-27-13  John Abraham: Very pretty...;&
http://www.schachall.de/wp-content/... http://www.morgenweb.de/polopoly_fs...
Dec-29-13  TheFocus: Singing: "Oh, there's no place like Ohme for the holidays."
Feb-12-14  waustad: Her chances for a prize went up at the Internationales Casino Open Graz 2014 A-Turnier when Eva Moser dropped out. Now she is the second highest rated female player, just a few points behind Lei Tingjie.

By the way, it is a nice new picture. She finally looks like an adult here.

Feb-15-14  waustad: She's on the video a lot now because she's playing Andrei Istratescu on board 1. http://www.chess-results.com/live.a... Obviously this is rather ephemeral and there isn't away to nuke it after an hour.

ketchuplover: Apparently she's a chess ambassador or something now.
May-15-14  waustad: I think the actual title is something like Ambassador Against Racism if I recall correctly.
May-15-14  Karpova: She does not only represent the campaign against racism, she is also one of the official ambassadors for the Tromsö Chess Olympiad 2014 (together with Magnus Carlsen, Anatoly Karpov, Susan Polgar, Alexandra Kosteniuk, Lars Monsen, Sigurd Rushfeldt and Hans Olav Lahlum).

Source: http://www.melanie-ohme.net/compone...

May-15-14  waustad: Ah yes, in the English version I see, "Ambassador for the Olympics." In earlier articles that were in German I remembered "gegen Rassismus" in more than one article. She was usually photographed by some sort of poster. As always, it would be dangerous to trust my German much beyond the daily life sort of thing with which I have much more experience.
May-15-14  waustad: For that matter Alexandra Kosteniuk is a good ambassador for something international: playing for Russia, while champion (female and open) of Switzerland and living in Florida. I admire anybody who finds a way to make an honest living out of playing a board game, but that is one of the better combos.
May-22-14  waustad: She's playing in a tournament in Denmark now: http://www.fredericia-skakforening.... She would need 6/9 to get another IM norm, though she's drawn her first two games.
