Jan-02-08  pawnofdoom: Another one of the rising stars in the US. I believe he is 12 or so. Maybe 11. But he is at the top of the rating list int he US for his age!
Jan-02-08  whiskeyrebel: I've sat next to him during a couple tournament rounds. He sat on a phone book..or something. This kid's going places.
Jan-06-08  pawnofdoom: Oh wait I am mistaken. He is only 10 and he's #1 in the US for quick chess out of players under 13!
Jan-06-08  Jim Bartle: He appears to be evolving quickly, then.
Jan-06-08  Udit Narayan: <Jim Bartle> LOL!
Jan-06-08  Jim Bartle: Thanks, but really it was just a natural selection.
Jan-06-08  whiskeyrebel: Ohhhh, now I get it.

D Yang vs R Mogranzini, 2011

Apr-10-12  waustad: He beat GM Margvelashvili, Giorgi yesterday at the http://saintlouischessclub.org/2012...
May-30-12  notyetagm: TAKEN D. Yang vs Robson Saint Louis Invitational 2011 33 ... Rd1xBe1! 0-1 destroys White e1-bishop defender of White f2-queen

ATTACKED D.Yang vs Mogranzini Spice Cup Group B 2011 60 Rh6-h4?? f7-f6+! 0-1 attacks White g5-king defender, vacates f7-sq for rtg ... Be6-f7+

THE UNDERRATED REMOVAL OF THE GUARD

NM Dan Heisman: The logic a guarded piece is not really guarded if the guard can be attacked (60 ... f7-f6+! 0-1) or taken (33 ... Rc1xBe1! 0-1) is not really emphasized in beginner's books.

FSR: It's too bad that Yang has never played Hao Yin.
Jun-16-12  poorpatzer: He's on the Denker list, if he isn't too good to play he ought to sweep: http://www.denkerchess.com/
Mar-17-14  waustad: He's on the list for the GM title decision for FIDE: http://ratings.fide.com/title_appli...

It doesn't look like he'll be over 2500 by then though it should be very close (Oklahoma gain: http://ratings.fide.com/individual_...), though he lost some rating at the UT Dallas Spring Open and didn't have a good start that could have possibly taken him over the threshhold. He's been just under 2500 for about 2 years, so it's likely he gets there soon at his age. He should be ready to start college soon, so I'm sure the top teams are courting him.

Dec-05-14  Rookiepawn: <FSR: It's too bad that Yang has never played Hao Yin.>

Do you think so? I guess all their games would be draws.

Jul-14-17  takchess: I believe he is now a GM. https://boylstonchess.org/events/21...
Dec-02-18  sonia91: Apparently he studies at Harvard University, whose chess team finished 2nd in the inaugural Ivy Chess Challenge: https://en.chessbase.com/post/princ...

Okay, no, I made that up.

HeMateMe: has Harvard done anything at the Pan Am college chess tournament, do they participate?
Nov-13-23  Caissanist: According to his LinkedIn, he is now pursuing a PhD in economics at Princeton after getting his B.S. at Harvard. While at Harvard he took a class from Ken Rogoff, who speaks highly of him: https://en.chessbase.com/post/ken-r... .
