Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-25-08  mack: I cannot help but reproduce <AlanWilkinson>'s comments from elsewhere on this site:

<Ari Nijman was an amazing character. He smoked like a chimney but often wound up smoking his matchstick instead when he was getting excited during a five-minute game. He used to play Alvin Hollander half the night "for money". But it was all double or quits so Ari would win a long string of games and eventually Alvin would win one so they would be quits and could go home. Ari's cry was "This is the very, very last - even if I win!" - but it never was. He didn't drive - said it was cheaper to take a taxi everywhere than own a car. He also reckoned he hardly ever slept but even if he died young he would have been awake more hours than anyone else.>

Jan-01-16  Benzol: Sadly I've just heard that he has passed away.
