F EUGENE BRENZINGER
(born 1835, died Jan-13-1910, 74 years old) United States of America

[what is this?]

Francis Eugene Brenzinger (né Franz Eugen Brenzinger, aka Frederick Brenzinger), born Waldkirch, Grand Duchy of Baden GER; died New York, NY USA.

Naturalized on October 8, 1868. He had three children, Eugene Emil (1873-1947), Eva Dora (1878-1947), and Henry Frank (1880-1955).

Mr. F. Eugene Brenzinger, an artist as skilled in confections as in chess, contributed to the festival an enormous cake, upon whose broad surface was beautifully delineated in sugared frost work of various colors an original chess problem by Mr. Eugene B. Cook, encircled by an appropriate inscription from the donor to the Fifth American Chess Congress. (1)

Treasurer of the Staten Island Chess Club in 1898 (his son Eugene was Secretary that year). (2) He was elected the Staten Island Chess Club Vice-President in 1905. (3)

Brother of Karl Brenzinger and father to Eva Brenzinger.

I can't believe that these two are the only games by FE Brenzinger of the Brooklyn Chess Club posted here.

May-21-12  ForeverYoung: Anybody out there care to elucidate who Brenzinger was?
May-23-12  SBC: .

A crony of Myron Hazelton, James Mason, Eugene Delmar, Charles Gilberg, Max and Morris Judd, Capt. Mackenzie and other well known players, a member of the Brooklyn Chess Club (as well as the Staten Island and Paulsen Clubs) and one of the stronger American players in his day (b. 1835; d. 1910). There are 175 games of Delmar here, but 2 of Brenzinger who seems to have been a stronger player. He was also a problemist and a multi-board blindfold player.

Should be Miron, not Myron.

Phony Benoni: JI've been going through some old issues of the "New York Times", and just found a Brenzigner win from the Brooklyn Chess Club Tournament of 1869 over, of all people, Eugene Delmar. Will submit. Heroic game.
