perfidious: Circa 1979, I remember playing the Tanglewood Open at Great Barrington, Massachusetts with Kuroda, but the player I recall was not in his sixties; would have guessed he was in his twenties, and hailed from Arkansas.
Apr-25-14  Granny O Doul: Yes, Paul Kuroda was a Senior Master who played first board for the University of Arkansas in several Pan-ams in the 1980's.

On the other hand, half-Orientals are notoriously half-inscrutable.

Dec-04-18  Caissanist: There seem to have been two Paul Kurodas. The first was a noted Japanese nuclear chemist who emigrated to the USA in 1949, eventually becoming a chemistry professor at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas. I can't find a record of this one ever playing in a chess tournament. The second Paul Kuroda, presumably his son, was an American born in Fayetteville who won the Arkansas state championship many times. Most likely it was the second one who played for Japan at Haifa 1976, even though he seems to have had only a tenuous connection to the country of his father's birth.
Oct-06-20  edroche1111: I played Paul Kuroda in the 1974 North American open in Stillwater OK. Our game was a draw. He was rated 2300 at that time.
