Jul-03-24  hellopolgar: This guy may be untitled today, but he will be a GM eventually.

OhioChessFan: Definitely looks like a late bloomer as he's improved over 300 rating points in the last two years.
Jul-03-24  EvanTheTerrible: I'm sure there are many other kids just like him who do not have a FIDE rating, but are ridiculously strong. Lots of Chinese players don't get an opportunity to compete internationally until they've already reached a very strong level. For example, Ding's first FIDE rating was 2230 obtained at the age of 11/12. Once these guys get international exposure, they can show what they're truly made of. I believe Haowen Xue beat Hans Niemann about a year ago in a classical game.

perfidious: This phenomenon was far from uncommon also in Soviet days, with dozens of strong masters unknown outside that country who proved their mettle once the floodgates opened.
Jul-03-24  EvanTheTerrible: <perfidious>, correct! Perhaps the best example is of Kasparov, whose initial provisional rating was 2595!
