Jul-28-15  zanzibar: I found a little about him in some old <Washington Chess Letter> articles:

https://zanchess.wordpress.com/2014...

There's some recent comments and an inquiry from somebody that knew him just before he moved out of U.S.

Feb-18-18  tjipa: In Latvia, his homeland, his last name is spelled Dālbergs. Upon arrival in US, my guess is the long ā was ditched first due to its nonexistence in the English alphabet, then substituted with ah - to make the pronunciation resemble the original name. Also the Latvian ending -s was often ditched by American Latvians. I knew Olafs Stumbrs - an American Latvian poet and chess player, a friend of Dalbergs. From him and later from his widow Daira I learned that at some point Dalbergs changed his chess hobby to gambling and, no wonder, ended his life quite miserably.
