Jul-01-04  mikejaqua: Wow! This guy's almost as amazing as NN. Fernandez played for 94 years.
Jul-22-05  Montreal1666: Actually 104 years!!!!
Jul-22-05  aw1988: The math here is terrible. 103 years.
Jul-22-05  Montreal1666: There is more to it than meets the eye!!!

(2003-1900) + 1

Jul-22-05  aw1988: Sorry, how precisely does that work again?
Jul-22-05  aw1988: Oh, right. I'm rusty.
Jul-22-05  Montreal1666: <aw1988> Well it is a bit delicate. For example if you say I played chess only in the year 2000, you have played for 1 year. If you say I played chess in the years 2000 and 2001 then you have played for 2 years:

(2001-2000) + 1

Jul-22-05  aw1988: Yes, I know.
Jul-22-05  rexeterna: So Fernandez would be the alter ego of NN and Meyer, right?
Jul-24-05  Giearth: This Fernandez fellow must be an Elf!
Jul-24-05  arifattar: Obviously there is more than one Fernandez involved here. Quite a common Portuguese surname. Go to Turner Road in Bombay and throw a stone. Chances are it will land in the drawing room of Mr. Fernandez.
Jul-24-05  Montreal1666: <arifattar:> that is why Mr. Fernandez has made his way to the Odd Lie hall of fame!!! (We are joking around man!)
Jan-23-08  jovack: Fernandez can live forever apparently.
Dec-24-08  WhiteRook48: wow. Another really old guy who lost a lot of his games... makes me wonder if he's related to NN.
Dec-28-08  visayanbraindoctor: <Montreal1666: Actually 104 years!!!!.> My great, great, great grandmother was surnamed Fernandez. If she had played Steinitz, then CG Fernandez would be more than 104 years old.
May-11-11  nofum: <WhiteRook48>
To be fair to the old feller, Fernandez did win 10 games.

perfidious: Maybe we can thin the ranks of the mysterious Fernandez games; I've got a few in mind. Time to get to work. Let's see how much progress can be made from the current count of 59.

Any other takers?

Methuselah's cousin, don't you know.

<....Fernandez played for 94 years. >

This statement is now correct (at least for the moment!). His playing career may shrink yet more, however-I've a feeling that there's a joker called Fernandes in the midst of all this with most of those Dubai 1986 games.

We're now on 32, with hope of further progress.

perfidious: Things are looking up with a count of 28, but there may be some further adventures in store.

There's probably no hope of clearing up the very earliest games, but no harm trying, either!

Jul-30-13  epistle: El Presidente himself.
