  John Saunders: After Oxford, Walter Moberly did some post-grad study at Ridley Hall, Cambridge at a time when I was at Selwyn College, Cambridge. When I discovered he was in Cambridge, I managed to exploit a link between his college and mine, and recruited him to represent Selwyn in college chess. So, for the 1974/75 season, he played on top board in our five-board College League matches. On his debut he defeated future IA David Sedgwick. I'm not aware of Moberly playing competition chess after 1975 but he may have done. He was playing around the 2250-2300 level at that time and would have climbed quite a lot higher had he devoted more time to the game.
