perfidious: Jim Thibault was the 1977 National High School champion, scoring 7/8, ahead of Yasser Seirawan et al on 6.5, giving New England a sweep of the event.

The event was held in the old Bond Court Hotel in Cleveland from 12th-15th May.

Jim was a strong master (2450) by the early 1980s, and a decent fellow, with little or no ego about him, unlike some very good players I've known. The last I saw of him was in about 1983 at (I think) one of the Monadnock Marathons in Jaffrey, New Hampshire.
