Qianyun Gong, born on March 11, 1985, in Lechang, Shaoguan, Guangdong, China, is a Chinese-born Singaporean chess player who has made significant achievements in the world of chess. Awarded the title of Woman Grandmaster (WGM) by FIDE in 2018, Gong's chess career is marked by both national and international successes. Notably, she finished fourth in the 2001 Women's Chinese Chess Championship and has won the Singaporean women's championships multiple times (2012, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018).
Gong represented China at the World Team Chess Championship in Beersheba, Israel, in 2005, where she played on the fourth board of the only women's team present. The following year, she clinched the Women's World University Chess Championship in Lagos, Nigeria, with an impressive score of 7/9 points, contributing to China's team gold medal. After leaving the Chinese teams in 2007, Gong moved to Hong Kong to teach chess, and in 2009, she relocated to Singapore to continue her coaching career. Since transferring to the Singapore Chess Federation in 2014, Gong has represented Singapore in numerous competitions, including playing on board three in the open section of the 41st Chess Olympiad. Her final WGM norm was earned at the QCD Prof Lim Kok Ann Invitational tournament in June 2018, and she tied for first place at the Asian Women's Continental Championship in December 2018, securing the silver medal on tiebreak score.
Beyond her achievements on the chessboard, Gong plays for the Qingdao Yucai chess club in the China Chess League (CCL). Her personal life is also noteworthy, as she is married with two children, illustrating her ability to balance a demanding professional career with family responsibilities.
