All the best players from the borough took her on(around 7 plus myself and she disposed of all of us quite easy. quite a prospect I hope! She was very helpfull organised and she very pretty ;-)

offramp: She has an article at the chessbase site: http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail... In it she tells of her time at the 21st North American Open in Las Vegas last year. She says that the organizers didn't do much organizing but the tournament began and ended as expected so all's well that ends well. Isn't there an American phrase about the government that governs least governs best. Is that Harry Truman?

Sep-08-13  waustad: Her commentary is rather amusing in this article. The first game (though the result shown is wrong it seems) is a serious example of "cave man chess." http://en.chessbase.com/Home/TabId/...
Sep-08-13  dx9293: Just read the ChessBase article. Wow, is Chevannes on some kind of high horse!

"Rare display of excellent organization in an America event?" American tournaments are organized just fine, they're simply different from European events. You want all equipment provided and conditions for strong players? Find some sponsors for American events rather than having the players' entry fees pay for everything.

"My first experience of an American chess tournament...was the North American Open in Las Vegas, Nevada. This was not a good experience and many American organisers were concerned that I would not return due to this ordeal." They were concerned YOU wouldn't return? Really? Who the heck are you??

Numerous 2700 GMs play in the huge American swisses, and don't complain. You don't like how things are run, stay home.

Chevannes completed her WIM title in the event and earned a WGM norm, so well done to her, but to act like she is some tournament fixture or has a long record of chess accomplishments just because ChessBase likes her is obnoxious.

GrahamClayton: "My advice to anyone who is looking to improve their chess is to work on improving themselves first. Work out all your flaws as a person and tackle those in the first instance.. This is not going to be an easy job as no one likes to admit their imperfection. You will be amazed, though, at the results this will bring."

Sabrina Chevannes, "A Summer of Chess Stateside", CHESS, November 2013, p. 17.

Aug-19-23  kereru: The list of GMs who might be inclined to sue her for speaking out about her experiences with sexual harassment is very short.
Sep-05-23  Caissanist: Article about her telling about being raped at a tournament as a teenager when she was "blackout drunk": https://www.aol.com/women-chess-mas... .
