GrahamClayton: Smirnov has been living in Australia since 1999. His 10-year old son Anton won the 2011 Ford Memorial, matching his father's three wins.

It is a shame that he hasn't played for Australia in an Olympiad.

I think it's because he's still registered with the Russian Chess Federation, which makes him ineligible.

Sep-27-14  Benzol: He and his son Anton Smirnov are both playing in the George Trundle masters tournament in Auckland at the moment.
