Aug-13-05  catlover: Poor slob. With a name like that, no wonder we don't have more games of his in the database.
Aug-13-05  SneechLatke: Such and unfortunate name! Especially if he ever played in a tourney with another family member participating. I can see it now, him being doomed for the phrase "Just another Patzer" to follow his everywhere...
Aug-13-05  sneaky pete: <vonKrolock>'s quote is great, but loses it's magic in translation. Schweineschach = pig's chess. In scheine schwach = seemingly weak. "You think I play <Schweineschach>, but I play only <in scheine schwach>."
Aug-13-05  NakoSonorense: This has to be the worst name for a chess player ever!

Just for the record, I remember a baseball pitcher (MLB) whose last name was "Ballfour." Not bad, huh!

alexmagnus: Mr.Patzer is still alive, his Elo is 1995.
Btw. fide.com has 3 players with name Patzer (Joachim, Joerg and Stefan).Joerg Patzer is inactive now (Elo 2175) but Stefan Patzer (born 1982, Elo 2029) has still chances to get some title in his life......
Aug-14-05  vonKrolock: <Wannabe> - <sneaky pete> is right - a literal translation would not comunicate the spirit of the joke... Arno Nickel attributes the saying to Eric Lobron

Sneaky: Reminds me of a German pun, something you might say after sampling the evening's wine selection: "Das ist gut für Tisch Wein" (that is good for table wine) cf. "Das ist gut für die Schwein" (that is good for the pig).

And people say that Germans have no sense of humor. Hah!

Aug-14-05  rochade18: <alexmagnus> That's funny, you mention Stefan Patzer! We occasionally see each other on tournaments. I played him twice (1 loss, 1 draw I should win next time;)

Sneaky: This must be the guy that Fischer was talking about when he said "Patzer sees check; patzer gives check!" ;-)
Aug-14-05  Montreal1666: As opposed to "Patzer" the family name "Krush" is very good for a chess player!!!
Feb-13-06  Keksboxer: Hi, I'm a Patzer too ;-)

My Name is Stefan Patzer and i'm one of the three Patzer on the FIDE-List.

Feb-13-06  Jim Bartle: Stefan, you shouldn't feel bad.

In baseball, for example, Horace Speed never stole a base, Vic Power hit very few home runs, Cecil Fielder weighed 300 pounds and couldn't bend over for the ball, etc.

In other words, all the opposite of their names.

Feb-13-06  technical draw: <Jim Bartle> And Chess Records is about Bo Diddley not Bo Fischer.
Feb-15-06  Lupechmand: <vonKrolock> "du denkst, ich spiele Schweineschach, aber ich spiele nur in scheine schwach"

I am austrian and I speak german so give me the honor of translating the above: "You think I'm playing very bad, but I just let it seem like that."

The direct translation of "Schweineschach" is pig chess.

cheers

Feb-15-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <keksboxer> Hi there! In your bio it says you're from Lübeck, but when I check your name on FIDE, it says you're French! How do you explain that?

Also, another question: are you related to the other two "Patzers" on the FIDE-list? :)

Sep-18-07  Ragh: hmm.. A 2049 rating for Patzer! He is not a patzer after all.
Sep-18-07  whiteshark: Mardon me, padam.

<vonKrolock> posted a <Schüttelreim> ('shake rhyme'), which is a rhyme where the initial consonants (or even the following vowels) of the last two stressed syllables are exchanged with one another.

It is a very special form of a spoonerism, necessarily including a rhyme and both parts of the rhyme also create a funny sentence on a topic.

My impression is that you can't translate it in all it's aspects. :D

Nov-22-08  Jim Bartle: How about this page for all games posted by kibitzers? I for one would check them out.

But what about utility player Phil Linz?

Jul-06-10  Shams: <Jim Bartle> Great idea.

  FSR: I. Krush-A. Patzer would be a great match-up.
Oct-24-18  RookFile: The ultimate is Sam Lloyd's problem, Patzer vs. Duffer, where stalemate is reached in 10 moves or so.

perfidious: Hardly a patzer, but so it goes.
