A rather stunning combo!

I found the game fragment in Vesely: "Psychologicky pruvodce sachovou partii". The game ended as thus:

<24.Rxe5! Qxe5 25.Ng6!! Qxe5 26.Ne7+ Kh8 27.Qxh7+ ... 1:0.>

Of course, 25...Qxh2 fails to 26.N5e7# -- a famous predecessor being N Marache vs Morphy, 1857.

Oct-19-05  Runemaster: Yes, stunning - thank you, Gypsy. One small thing, though - after 25. Ng6, Black's 25th move can't be 25...Qxe5 - he played that on the move before.
Oct-19-05  acirce: Yes, thanks! I tried to solve that one but failed. Very nice.
Oct-19-05  Gypsy: <Runemaster: Yes, stunning - thank you, Gypsy. One small thing, though ...> Thx, forgive me the typo -- 25...Qxd5 was the move in the game.
Oct-19-05  Runemaster: <Gypsy> Then there's the extra beautiful point that at the end, White could capture Black's queen, but instead sacrifices his own.

Do you know anything about this player? I have to say I'd never heard of him.

Oct-19-05  Gypsy: <acirce: Yes, ... Very nice.> Glad you liked it.

<Runemaster> All I know is that there are annual Gargulak Memorial tournaments in Brno, Czech Republic.

  FSR: Nice combo, Gypsy, although child's play for anyone who'd seen Marache-Morphy. Had Gargulak? Who knows what the state of chess literature was for players in Znojmo in 1909? I'm sure it was a pretty celebrated game, so if Gargulak had access to any chess literature at all he could well have seen the Morphy game.
Nov-16-22  Juris: Black draws though with 25...hxg6.

  Honza Cervenka: <Black draws though with 25...hxg6> Well, 24.Rxe5 Qxe5 25.Ng6 hxg6 26.Qxe5 cxd5 27.Qxd5 definitely gives black sufficient material equivalent for his lost Queen.
