This could take hours, but usually it doesn't. I am going to ask you to take this time in future. This is how I do it.
1. Check the exact spelling you submit in the <Main Search Box>- not the <quick search box> which is on the top of the home page. 2. Check for alternate spellings. Start by searching last name only and examine the drop down list. Look for any similar spellings and check those player pages- there may already be duplicate pages. As an uploader, it is your responsibility to check this thoroughly. Names such as Januschpolski are particularly prone to alternate spellings. The only reason I knew about Iosif Lvovich Yanushpolsky in the first place is that I had to search- long and hard- to find that name in our database, because I knew ahead of time that he was 1. A somewhat well-known player (you can often tell by the event he is in) and 2. There were letter combinations with frequent alternate spellings- "sch" "ski" "Yan" could be "sh" "sky" "Jan" for example. 3. Check google. Google the name you are about to submit. Search terms like "(name submitted + chess), or (name submitted + chess games) are useful. 4. Check the spelling used at 365Chess.com and Edochess. Their spelling may give hints as to which spellings to investigate in our database. 5. This is the most important step of all- if you are submitting a game with a player name that you cannot find in our database, please post your pgn in the <Biographer's Bistro> and ask if the name is already in cg.com under a different spelling. |

The only reason I found this is because I copy and paste every single player name into the cg.com Main Search box before submitting any pgn. I would ask you please to adopt this practice as well. In this case, we don't want to publish a game that has a player with a duplicate page. First, I will submit a correction slip to requesting that Leslie Bale and Leslie Bale be merged. Once the correction slip has been processed, then I will publish your submission. |

I've kept up with almost everyone else from our (DM Theodore Roosevelt) high school [Dan '69, myself: '72] team, but lost track of Dan after he visited me in California in the early 1980's.
