alexmagnus: <Natalia Pogonina> I like your games and the style of your writing (and your "chatiness" with us low players) but I'm still kind of mad at your comments during Nanjing 2009 :D
Aug-06-13  MarkFinan: It doesn't matter to me whether you're rated 1500 or 2500, il tell people what i think of them regardless of status. So on the subject of you being a GM or not i happen to think in this instance you're right in what you say, but i wouldn't worry too much about what Lotsapoppa has to say in this instance because there's probably a little jealousy and envy on her behalf.. But i assure you usually she's really pleasant.. Are you the woman who's married to her manager?? If so it explains a lot to me why she's reacted like she has.. Peace out NP :)

Unbelievable!!!!

This brand new article (August 12th!) covers *exactly* what we were discussing in this forum a little over a week ago. It should answer *all* of the questions asked.

Aug-25-13  notyetagm: European Individual Women's Championship (2013)

This upcoming book from the <CHESS INFORMANT> publisher looks really good if you follow women's chess.

http://www.newinchess.com/Chess_Que...

<<<<Official book of the European Women's Chess Championship "Belgrade 2013">>>

INTRO

There is a double standard in the usual behavior of men when it comes to women’s chess. Regarding the quality of the games at women’s tournaments, neglect is still a common issue from the point of view of the opposite sex.

At the same time, there is an enormous fear of losing the game when a brave man finds himself at the board across from a lady. In fact, it is all about knowledge. Good players, no matter which sex they are, will always make an impression.

The main difference is that female players do it in a more esthetic way, with a gracious, dancing style of their battlefield pieces. We hear the common complaint from women chess grandmasters many times – “I never beat healthy men.

They always have an excuse as to why it happened.” Shamefully, the authors cannot refute this statement from their own tournament experiences. Ladies do sacrifice pieces over the board, right!? Oh yes, they do, and they often do it in a blink of an eye.

There is a collection of annotated chess combinations carried out by women players throughout history in front of the reader. These combinations throw some light on an attractive part of the chess creativity of some of the greatest personalities in chess.

When it is about combinations, it is about the decisive point of every game. It is true that women’s chess deserves wider attention, but we are at least now able to open the door a crack.

Inside, special space is dedicated to the Women’s World Champions and one non-crowned champion. And there is space for top Serbian players as well, since this book is published to celebrate the European Individual Women’s Championship that took place in Belgrade, capital of Serbia, a country with a great chess tradition.

We hope this book will encourage further projects dedicated to the prettiest side of the wonderful game of chess.

Nov-09-13  waustad: <notyetagm>Thanks for hyping olimpbase and that article. I did a bit of that when I first discovered how much the site had changed of late for the better. One of the biggest features now is that from each player's page there is the control that drops down a menu showing which events apply. As an example, see Natalia's personal page: http://www.olimpbase.org/playersw/h...

AylerKupp: Good luck in the 2015 Women's Chess Championship matches!
May-02-15  thegoodanarchist: Natalia, I wonder if you would answer a question:

Are you usually punctual for the start of your games?

My experience with chess tournaments in NY was that the titled players always show up late!

With the exception of IM Ron Burnett, that is. He was always on time.

I didn't remember to this comment. Maybe I was drunk when wrote.

Copy and paste the Ceramic into the "Google translator" and set it for Russian - English.

The accuracy of translations for many of the languages has dramatically increased recently. I use the Google translator every day in chess work and I would say the improvement has been exponential.

I did take Ceramics in grade 9 art class, but I have long since forgotten how to do it.
