<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

Now it does not seem to work. In 30 seconds I did not find the solution, so it has to be cooked.

<White to play and win.>

Qxg5

(Very nice)

You will eventually win blacks queen by forcing black into a discovered check on h7 over and over as you remove pcs. from the 6th rank.

OhioChessFan: <dice> is correct. Qxg5 hxg5 Rxg6+ initiates a windmill ending with Ra6+ and RxQ next.

Fusilli: Funny thing is, a minor typo in the setup of the position would have also rendered a mate in 3 solution!

A lot less artistic and definitely not puzzle competition material given that there are many solutions, since white has 6 possible moves after 1...h2, and on top of that, black has 2 different moves after 5 of those 6 possible moves. (Did I get that right?) But it's always mate in 3, and white's first move is always the same.

Fusilli: On a totally different note, <OCF>, I remember you writing somewhere about being very happy with SiriusXM. I just got a new car that came with a trial. I haven't even tried it yet, but I wonder, why should I bother? Isn't it just like listening to the radio?

Fusilli: <stone free or die: <OCF> is the trick guessing what square the Black king is on?>

Well... if I place the black king on c8, it's mate in 5. In multiple ways, but always the first white move.

OhioChessFan: SiriusXM is one of my greatest pleasures in life. It's opened me up to musical genres I'd mostly ignored, particularly jazz and classical. Two things stand out for me vs listening to terrestrial radio:

1. No commercials, at least on the music channels.

2. At any time, I can pick and click to immediately access whatever genre I'm in the mood for. In no particular order, I might choose jazz, classical, classic rock, 50's, 60's, 70's, bluegrass, blues, classic Motown, classic country, 80/90's country, PGA golf, MLB, NFL, ESPN and a bunch of others. I'm really not sure what it costs and don't care. It's worth it, whatever it costs.

  Fusilli: Nice.

1.c4+ Kc5 2.Kb7. If black promotes, Bf8 is mate. What makes this beautiful is that it is a case of 100% perfect coordination of the white pieces. Every piece is necessary for the mate and there is no redundancy. Every square is taken by just one of the white pieces (including the d3 pawn making Kxc4 impossible). I suppose that is true of any puzzle worth its salt, but it is nice to see.

<stone> I think the main challenge is to realize that the b5 square is not available to the black king because of the pawn now on c4.

  Fusilli: <OhioChessFan: SiriusXM...>

Thank you. I read that the sound quality is also superb. Is that your experience too?

I'm not sure I'll keep it, since my usual M.O. in my car is to connect my phone and listen to either podcasts or whatever audio book I am listening to. Music too, out of my music app. But I do see the advantage in quickly telling SiriusXM what genre you want and let it make the decisions for you, since that will expose you to new things.

My music app, like all other music apps, also has the feature where you can select a genre and it randomizes it for you, but you have the option to like specific tracks as you listen to them. Which I thought was nice, but now that I have liked so many, it means that I listen to the same tracks over and over because the app knows that I like them, and it offers me fewer new things.

Aug-15-25  stone free or die: <Fusilli> yes, but I didn't immediately see the mate.

(At first I was thinking I get a check with the pawn and then the bishop. But the king just moves away, and I can't get the bishop over to prevent promotion. My admitted lack of board vision.)
