| May-24-05 | | lopium: It's funny to see ratings over 3500! It's not similar to the elo system. On FICS, it's more similar, and the level is very strong. There's always a lot of people to play (around 400, but It can grow up to 700 or down to 250), the best rating in FICS is the one of Deep Junior, 2700.... There's some GM's, but they are far away computers, and not only Deep Junior. Gadir Guseinov for example is around 2100 or something like that. The best human's rating I saw is about 2200 in blitz and in the 2300s in standard. I am around 1500 in blitz there. |

| May-26-05 | | lopium: Well, I don't want to critic chess servers at all. I only see right now that the best human player on FICS is 2350 exactly, the 10th is 2200 exactly. That is in blitz.
In standard, the best human is about 2380 and the 10th best human is 2141. Computers are a lot much stronger than humans in this server. As I said, even the GM's who are playing there are less strong. But it's normal, they don't play as they play in tournaments, they just play for fun, so it's normal they aren't that good on FICS. Computers always play like they do, and It show us that.
If you have beated a 2100 on FICS in blitz and he didn't play well, it's very possible, but it is only one case in only one or few games.... Anyway maybe it was a temporally rating too, which is not stable at all.
Last thing : chess players on FICS will play less good than in tournaments, so If a chess server give them a rating superior that they FIDE rating, It's not like the elo system at all. In this way, FICS is close to the FIDE rating I think, or even much strict. |

According to the crosstable, Izoria drew with player #109 (Victor Plotkin) in round two. And in round five, Izoria defeated player #2 (Ilya Smirin). |

Try http://www.chesslive.de, then bring about the position after White's 12th move (or an opening position from any game, for that matter) and a whole list will appear with all known transpositions. But pay attention as to whom played those games, as there are many examples of two weak players entering the line. For example, if you find a game that looks good, but was played in, let's say, the Scottish girls Under-12 championship of 1998, please excercise caution! There are lots of blunders by children, adults and computers alike. Another example: you are looking up analysis on 1. e4 Nc6 2. d4 e5 3. d5, anyone with even a minimal of experience can plainly see that 3...Nd4? loses a Knight to the simple 4. c3. Yet chesslive.de has dozens of examples of games beginning with those very moves. |
