CHESSGAMES - BEER

[what is this?]

Beer is believed to be over 10,000 years old. Although no one knows its exact origins, some agricultural historians believe that the first beer may have been produced accidentally when a stash of grain was soaked by rain and then warmed by the sun. If this mixture were spontaneously fermented by wild, airborne yeast—which thrives in just these warm, moist conditions—beer would have been produced (Encarta).

Fermented beverages have been preferred over water throughout the ages: they are safer, provide psychotropic effects, and are more nutritious. Some have even said alcohol was the primary agent for the development of Western civilization, since more healthy individuals (even if inebriated much of the time) lived longer and had greater reproductive success. May-28-05  Akavall: <Sneaky> Interesting link!

<WannaBe> 1 is not a prime number ;)

May-28-05  Catfriend: And you didn't mention poor 2 and 5:)

WannaBe: <Akavall> Yes it is. A prime number is a number that is only divisible by 1 and itself.

WannaBe: <Catfriend> Okay, okay, you got me there... Been hanging around this page too long.. *Hick*

<maoam> must be not from the states, no one here use pissed to mean drunk. 8-)

May-28-05  Akavall: If I remember my math correctly, prime number has to be divisible by 2 numbers; 1 and itself. 1 is only divisible by 1 number, because 1 and itself is a same thing. Therefore it is not a prime number.
May-28-05  Catfriend: <Wannabe> - <Akavall> is 100% correct! 1 is not a prime number, and he explained that in a good way. The point is "1 AND itself", implying (though perhaps not too clearly) that these should be two different numbers. Of course, it could be interpreted in other ways, but it's agreed in math not to consider 1 as a prime number.

WannaBe: According to what I have found out (I was taught 1 is a prime number, that is how old I am) Both definitions are correct.

Sneaky: I'm talking lap dances here, and all you nerds can do is talk about prime numbers? Sheesh...
May-28-05  Hesam7: 1 is definitely not a prime number since it is a unit.

WannaBe: Okay, next subject, given Hydra, how soon can it find the next largest prime number... 8-)
May-28-05  Hesam7: <WannaBe> This is real though. As far as I know Hydra's hardware is especialized for chess. Beside that the largest prime number known is: 2^(25,964,951) - 1 which has 7,816,230 digits! This type of prime numbers are callled Mersenne primes. For more info visit:

There are lots of links to other types of prime numbers and number theory in general.
