Oct-06-15  pinoymaster77: Sana makalaro GM Panjol sa BOGM 2015, Oct 14 to 22 daw sa PSC Canteen
Oct-25-15  pinoymaster77: Naka enter GM Panjol though not a good start with 0.5/2, may 8 games pa naman sya and still early. May 4 leaders na may 2pts after 3 rounds.
Nov-06-15  pinoymaster77: For Nov list, as GM JP took a brief hiatus and skipped a Malaysian event, eh GM Oli slipped up to #1. Pero Oli could be in trouble with NCFP again having skipped the last BOGM without proper paalam yata, nasa US ulit.

JP din naman has a recent concern, and sana na address na

GMs Paragua and Sanchez are inactive with NCFP, so GM Ino ang de facto #3, di rin maganda ang suporta so far :

Nov-10-15  Pru: Mukhang mababa ang morale ng Philippine chess players natin, wala si JP at Oli sa PHILIPPINE INTERNATIONAL CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP 2015.
Nov-10-15  gokusano: Kulang sa supporta ng private sectors. The government support for the federation is realistically small. The federation has to rally for the support of private firms for financial assistance to support their program. This is easier said than done. Aside from being a basketball-fanatic country, chess is a lonely sport and therefore lacks the glitter to attract sponsors. The primary person that can inject enthusiasm to this lonely sport is now a goner and has shifted federation last year.
Dec-19-15  pinoymaster77: Kahapon when it was raining cats and dogs with Onyok being relegated to LPA but inundated virtually the whole country, eh galling Malate eh dumaan via UN Ave going to Samplaloc. Nadaanan Robinson's Otis and it brought back memories of Sugar's previous birthday bash, that must be 3 to 4 years ago now.

Merong mini chess tournament among chess friends. Then live game between 2 young GMs JP and Wes, via laptop. Then a 'de suksok' chess board was being manned by Master B and sugar.

Both GMs have moved on, and many more events have passed. Gmlet has passed, while kabayan JP is reportedly having some time off from chess, hopefully after some time he will return to the sport of his life.

The Olympiad team next year could have another changing of the guard, with more new faces?

Key events next year din ang National and NCFP elections.

Dec-20-15  SugarDom: There are still people like us <pinoymaster> loyal to the country to the end.

We will focus on finding chess prodigies in the next year to replace those who abandon us.

Dec-30-15  pinoymaster77: After New Year na sad recap for Phil chess, for a possible new beginning / chapter?
Jan-01-16  pinoymaster77: Here's the Jan 1 list, major gainers are GM Rich, NM Docena (3 events here) while IM Hari dropped off from the top 10, from 2462 to 2435. But IM Hari had relatively good results in Penang and Johore recently in Dec play Philippines (Active players)

Jan-01-16  pinoymaster77: From recent sharings / text exchange from chessmates eh di lang pala yung issue ng chess not being part of 2015 SEAG kaya di maka justify ng performance, as a result of this, the GMs of that silver medal winning team in ASEAN Chess in the 2013 SEAG eh na downgrade na the said 30k per month allowance to a measly amount, kasama dun GM JP who took it hard.

- Kasama din daw sa criteria ng allowance for elite athlete yung performance, as measured by ELO rating. This may also have affected GM Ino's case, but there were other reasons, like PSC bungling the 1st set of documentation for Ino's classification as elite athlete (mataas pa ELO nya nuon, close to 2600).

- Chess reportedly got dropped as priority sport due to 'insufficient performance report', so kasama na dyan eh overall pressure on PSC allowances/payroll. One good result there is there's more thorough review and cleanup of those undeserving o nasisingit pa ng opisyal.

So aside from the above backdrop :

- Lets face it, there's a split in the NCFP ranks eversince the 2014 FIDE Elections, meron nang Pichay / Gary wing vs Bambol / Kirsan FIDE / Toti ACF wing. (shall we see a faceoff in the NCFP elections?)

- As result of above, most of the GMs have a trust issue with TD Jayson

- Yung post Wesley na sinasabi ng ibang NCFP bigwig like Atty Canobas na tapping an FST and sending GMs to European campaign eh di natuloy, drawing lang

With the above backdrop, we can see Philippine chess is in a deep hole and parang nasa kumunoy, pag nag try mag exert eh lalo pang nalulubog. It doesn't help that Mr. Pichay is now busy with preparations for his campaign. And before nga, per Sugar's point on politicos in sports, eh some private sponsors are wary of participating, umiiwas kay Mr. Pichay.

So, QUO VADIS, Philippine chess? Me thinks na imbes na magmukmok, eh all the more some basic / simple private sector help / action would be needed to stem the tide. One common vehicle would be the reported hosting here of the ASEAN Age Group sometime in June, this just happens every 4 to 5 years.

Jan-01-16  gokusano: That is why finding a potentially strong player in the mold of younger Eugene Torre will help NCFP's cause. The Philippines have to rise up despite some debacles in the past. Laban lang. Pag meron malakas na player, i develop at suportahan. LOL!
Jan-01-16  pinoymaster77: Meron na sa U10/U12 ranks, mga veteran agre groupers na and pinaglalaro as kiddies team, pinalalaban sa local team events. A couple of them even won Non-Masters events.

Sila Michael Concio Jr, Daniel Quizon, Mark Jay Bacojo, Alekhine Nouri and Justine Mordido. Pero ang tanong eh training program to get them competitive sa ASEAN, then Asian then the world. Tingin ko kulang pa programa, like di pa nga natutuloy Trainer for elite youth players.

Yung mga nauna na sa kanila na 'prodigies' medyo napaglipasan na, like earlier sila Stephen Pangilinan and Julius Gonzales, umakyat na sa HS

Jan-01-16  pinoymaster77: The main concern on the Seniors level this year is on the Olympiad team. Kung magamot cases nila GMs Ino and JP with a direct Pichay call, and AFGM Torre still willing to play, then the 2 other slots can be allotted for the youth.

Core youth like Pau Hari Jem Jerad Joel Den can then maybe slug it out for those 2 slots via double round robin, draws not counting. If there's a draw, then a rapid then blitz playoff for the point, para kada round decisive ?!

May-23-16  TheFocus: Is his nickname really "The Pope" as in his bio?
May-23-16  epistle: We tried to nickname him BEA because he's half the Beatles but it didn't stick.
Jun-11-16  pinoymaster77: All the best sana nga makalaro sa BOGM 2016, and earn another slot in the Olympiad team!

Go Kabayan GM Panjol !

Sep-01-16  wordfunph: "The Pope", good luck!

arriba Pinas!

Good luck Pope John Paul Gomez!
Sep-05-16  Virgil A: Good job, JP. Secured the first win on board 1 versus CRC
Sep-07-16  pinoymaster77: Naging biglaang Top board for awhile, like a loyal soldier Kaya naman pala!

Go Kabayan !

Sep-12-16  wordfunph: JP, buhos mo na sa last round.
Sep-13-16  Virgil A: JP. Thank you for representing the Philippines. You did your job. Way to represent!
Sep-14-16  pinoymaster77: Great thanks / gratitude to GM Panjol for heeding the country's call kahit kapapanganak lang ni Mrs Gomez, congrats on the 2nd child!

All the best also to the business you had to pursue, after that drastic PSC allowance cut. Sana ma workout na under the new PSC admin.

Kahit na medyo rusty na di na maituloy daily chess studies eh ok yung performance nung 1st half actually together with GM Banjo (the time GM Ino was hospitalized).

Feb-27-20  wordfunph: GM John Paul "The Pope" Gomez will represent Philippines in the 44th Moscow World Chess Olympiad 2020.

fuego!
