KENNETH ROGOFF
(born Mar-22-1953, 72 years old) United States of America

[what is this?]

Kenneth Saul Rogoff learned chess from his father at age six, but only took up the game in earnest when he received a chess set for his 13th birthday. He was soon recognized as a chess prodigy. By age 14, he was a USCF Master and New York State Open Champion, and shortly thereafter became a Senior Master, the highest US national title.

At 16, Rogoff dropped out of high school to concentrate on chess. He won the 1969 United States Junior Championship. Rogoff spent the next several years living primarily in Europe and playing in tournaments there. He finished third in the 1971 World Junior Championship, behind winner Werner Hug and Zoltan Ribli (second). At 18, he decided to go to college and pursue a career in economics rather than become a chess professional, but continued to play and improve for several years afterward.

FIDE awarded Rogoff the IM title in 1974, and the GM title in 1978. His best tournament result was second place at the United States Championship (1975), half a point behind six-time champion Walter Browne. This qualified him for the Biel Interzonal (1976), where he finished tied for 13th–15th. He tied for second with eight other players at Lone Pine (1976), half a point behind Tigran Petrosian. Rogoff tied for first at Norristown (1973) and Orense 1976.

Early in his economics career, Rogoff served as chief economist at the International Monetary Fund and also on the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. He is currently the Thomas D. Cabot Professor of Public Policy and Professor of Economics at Harvard University.

dempun: <saffuna> Yes, I saw another article that quoted the same numbers for the cost of renting rooms at his properties.

I was most curious about the actual budget of the Secret Service. I know the DHS budget for 2023 was 3.0 billion, however.

FSR: Joyce Vance (no relation to JD AFAIK):

Tonight, the Washington Post is reporting that early in his presidency, the Secret Service went to Trump to express concerns about their ability to protect him if he continued to golf at his own courses because of their proximity to public roads. The concern: “If photographers with long-range lenses could get the president in their sights while he golfed, so too could potential gunmen.” According to the Post, Trump responded that his golf courses were safe, and he wanted to keep playing golf on them.

Former presidents have smaller protection details after they leave the White House, which means less surveillance of an extended perimeter. The New York Times is reporting tonight that the detail did not search the entire perimeter of the course before Trump played, and President Biden called for Congress to increase the resources allocated to the Secret Service. But the headline here should be that the Secret Service did its job—the gunman didn’t get closer than 500 feet, about a football field and a half, to Trump. Trump wasn’t harmed; the would-be gunman didn’t get a shot off. That was so despite the fact that Trump’s outing had not been previously planned, which forced Secret Service agents “to work on the fly”—something they are loathe to do for precisely the reasons that materialized on Sunday.

The Post article recounts the story told by former Secret Service agent Joseph Petro, that after an armed man forced his way in and took hostages while President Reagan was playing at Augusta National, Reagan gave up golfing on public courses. He restricted his hobby to a single private course owned by friends. Petro wrote in his book that Reagan “said that he was giving up golf purposely because he was concerned about putting other people at unnecessary risk.”

It's amazing how so many conservatives talk far more about Trump's negatives than Harris's. It's bizarre.

Trump is far better than Harris.>

Those positions are not what I can support?

Why would I support that?

Sep-17-24  The Integrity: Yesterday, ABC made a statement regarding the whistleblower affidavit. The only thing ABC said was that they did not give the questions or the topics to the Harris campaign. Well, nobody accused ABC of doing that. ABC has been accused of the following:

1.) Giving the Harris campaign sample questions, similar to the actual questions that would be used for the debate. 2.) Agreeing to give Harris a smaller podium and other arrangements to minimize the size differential between Harris and Trump. 3.) Fact Checking would be done for Donald Trump and NOT Kamala Harris 4.) Harris campaign gave questions to ABC that were not to be included in the debate. Including questions regarding her time as DA in SF and her time as California Attorney General.

Out of all these accusations, the fact checking of Trump has been admitted to. The podium and split screen appearance to keep the height differential have already been proven, ABC did NOT deny communications with the Harris campaign without the Trump campaign being present and they will never deny that because they cannot. According to the whistleblower, ABC executives made numerous phone calls with the Harris campaign without including the Trump campaign on the call. Everything the whistleblower has submitted has been proven except for sample questions. There will be another tweet later today announcing action to be taken against ABC and the affiliates of ABC.

I couldn't say that he's wrong in what he says in this video. Political discourse is definitely toxic as hell.

He mentioned Destiny (Oh but THIS guy has a backstory that is more than a little cringe worthy) and Hasan (Cenk's nephew I think) as two who condone violence against those on the other side.

al wazir: <Lebanese officials said Tuesday that a “large number of people” were injured in various parts of the country after pagers they were carrying exploded, including members of the militant group Hezbollah, who carry the devices.

“Each one who received a new pager, throw it away,” said a voice message that was circulated to Hezbollah members, according to one of the members, who shared it with The Washington Post.

Health officials reported chaotic scenes at hospitals across the country as ambulances poured in, including in the capital, Beirut. Lebanon’s state-run news agency said that “a number of injuries” were reported in towns in southern Lebanon, near the border with Israel; in northern Lebanon; and the coastal city of Tyre. Lebanon’s Ministry of Health said “large numbers” of people were arriving at hospitals, related to the explosions of the devices.> https://www.washingtonpost.com/nati...

How could the IDF have booby-trapped all the pagers used by Hezbollah, and only those?

I saw video of young men in the market shopping for fruit, and the pager expoded in his pant's pocket. Videos are surfacing.

Over 1200 injured so far.

Sep-17-24  The Integrity: CEASE & DESIST: I, together with many Attorneys and Legal Scholars, am watching the Sanctity of the 2024 Presidential Election very closely because I know, better than most, the rampant Cheating and Skullduggery that has taken place by the Democrats in the 2020 Presidential Election. It was a Disgrace to our Nation! Therefore, the 2024 Election, where Votes have just started being cast, will be under the closest professional scrutiny and, WHEN I WIN, those people that CHEATED will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law, which will include long term prison sentences so that this Depravity of Justice does not happen again. We cannot let our Country further devolve into a Third World Nation, AND WE WON’T! Please beware that this legal exposure extends to Lawyers, Political Operatives, Donors, Illegal Voters, & Corrupt Election Officials. Those involved in unscrupulous behavior will be sought out, caught, and prosecuted at levels, unfortunately, never seen before in our Country.
