Feb-28-04 | | ConLaMismaMano: This guy is pretty impressive, he was in the 2500s and all of a sudden he became a strong 2600s, is he from the same generation of Bacrot? |
Feb-28-04 | | uponthehill: That's interesting- today the chess superpower is Russia, 2nd are Hungary and England. According to Freissenet and Vallejo I predict, that in 10 years France and Spain will be new powers of the chessworld. |

 | | lostemperor: No, you forget India. |
Feb-29-04 | | Benjamin Lau: lostemperor, long time no see. Btw, can you fix your "A history of chess" collection, there are two weird games at the end that you sort of "bookmarked" for later. |

Jun-23-04 | | ConLaMismaMano: Somebody knows why Fressinet didn't participate at the World Championship in Libya? |
Jun-23-04 | | cousinIT: <ConLaMismaMano> he didn't want to miss the football |

Aug-02-05 | | notyetagm: Another nice win by Fressinet today at the European Team Championships. His wins are powering France into first place. The killing move is 43 ♖xf7!, taking the base of the f7-g6-h5 pawn chain, thus removing the guard of the g6-pawn (square) for the follow-up 44 ♕xg6+. This fine concluding combination was started by 42 ♘c6!!, attacking and deflecting the Black e5-knight defender from the f7- and g6-squares. [Event "European Teams"]

Aug-02-05 | | notyetagm: Fritz 7 annotates the beginning of the winning combination by Fressinet in my last post as 42 ♘c6 ♘xc6?? 43 ♖xf7!!. |
Aug-02-05 | | TruthHurts: Fressinet just saw a 10 checkmate mooves combinations (against graf), great game and wonderfull finish . Fressinet's rating performance in this championships is of 2919 so far. This is the best performance within all the players. He beat three top grandmasters in a row. So far France is in the lead doing find, Lautier has a 2786 rating performance and Bacrot 2742. Tommorow they will face the tuff Dutch and their two very strong naturalize players Sokolov and Tiviakov. Probably we will have: Van Wely 2655 - Bacrot 2729
Lautier 2672 - Sokolov 2691
Tiviakov 2678 - Fressinet 2627
Bauer 2641 - Timman 2625
Aug-02-05 | | TruthHurts: To <chessgames.com>, he's higher rating was actually of 2654, reached when he was 21, even if there is no game of him with this rating in the database. |
Aug-07-05 | | TruthHurts: Fessinet finished european championships with a 2762 rating performance and 6.5/9 against a good opposition. He has the best 3rd board performance with 6.5/9 and the best rating performance between this players tied with 6.5. Fressinet played great chess and has been the french scorer, he helped a lot to reach this good 3rd place for France. standings:
1.Netherland
2.Israel
3.France

Aug-07-05 | | sitzkrieg: Truthhurts! So France didnt win after all. Woohoo! Holland did. But don't cry, we are all Europeans (hmm did i read that correct Israel 2nd?)so be happy Also funny fact; the moment Jan Timman is playing again for the Dutch team it wins the European championship. Never been a favorite player of me, but this time he certainly played well. |
Aug-07-05 | | TruthHurts: Well true israel is not "europe" as Sokolov and Tiviakov is not "netherland", anyway these bosnians and russians playing for holland did well, congratulations ... And actually Fressinet finally got the 3rd board silver medal, also congratulations ... |
Aug-07-05 | | sitzkrieg: haha..Ahww now i'm hurt..:P Nice try little buddy..
They are living in the Netherlands and have our citizenship. Maybe u prefer teams based on races instead of nationalities, haha..I believe Bauer plays in french team and is probably only french because France stole some land in the East from Germany in 1918, anyway his origins may not be french. France has been overrun (little bastards litteraly) so many times that i doubt u can speak of the french people with ur defenition:P Fressinet played great as did the French team so i was not even trying to bug you but french pride is easily hurt. I wonder why..:) |
Aug-07-05 | | sitzkrieg: Another thing it is nice to know and 100 percent clear now that Truthhurts is van Welov..
The message of van Welov just got deleted and now truthhurts immediately posted the same. Also compare comments about Netherlands/Bosnian players at the Bacrot site..Haha funny.. |
Aug-07-05 | | TruthHurts: TruthHurts is Van Wellov and I told it before in Nakamura's kibitz, that is also why I didn't hesitated to changed the message into Truthhurts one... Bauer is french, Bauer is a french name from Alsace which is a french region(their dialect is a mixed of french and german that's why his name is Bauer and it could sound german but is actually alsacian). Still Sokolov and Tiviakov had rating performance over 2700 and where not born in Holland at all, they live in holland and play for holland now, so congratulations for the Dutch team and their two top rated players from foreign origine. Also congratulations to Israel even if they are not in europe. And congratulations to France for this 3rd place. |
Aug-07-05 | | sitzkrieg: Yup; i agree |
Aug-07-05 | | sitzkrieg: I might add that Tiviakov is doing exceptionally well lately and Timman had a good tournament too. Do u maybe know if any "Dutch" players won prizes at their boards? Tiviakov maybe? |
Aug-07-05 | | TruthHurts: You agree with me, find , you agree with truth :).
Hmm no medals for Holland, but if medals where attribuated looking at rating performance, Tinman would have had a bronze at the 3rd board. |
Aug-07-05 | | TruthHurts: And finally Fressinet will maybe not have a medal cause they are not looking neither at the points and the performance but the pourcentage. |
Aug-07-05 | | TruthHurts: Congratulations to Cyprus for their incredible performance, they are last out of 40 at all the boards, they have the gold medal of the worst performance for board 1 until 5. |
Aug-07-05 | | sitzkrieg: Poor Cyprus. I hope they dont hand out medals on basis of percentages that wouldnt make sense if for example someone just played once or twice..
Also; are France and Greece tied or ended France higher cause of TPR? If i am correct they both have the same amount of match and board points. |
Aug-07-05 | | TruthHurts: France is third alone because of a higher BH, 184 for france 164.5 for Greece (wich is the board total amount of faced teams during the tourney), Greece has a far smaller BH because they faced lower teams only coming threw during the last rounds, therefore I would say that this is fair that Greece finally doesn't get over the podium... |
Aug-07-05 | | sitzkrieg: Ok thanks sounds fair indeed |
