Oct-14-11 | | bronkenstein: <...Matthew Sadler had already been invited to Wijk aan Zee in July, for the Grandmaster Group C, and accepted. In an article on Schaaksite.nl tournament director Jeroen van den Berg says he's (pleasantly) surprised about Sadler's recent results, and admits that he belongs in the B group. Since that group is already full, he'll 'have a chat' with Sadler about the situation.> from http://www.google.rs/url?sa=t&sourc... |

 | | Penguincw: I don't know how long it's been since he last played, but today he beat Hopman in 40 moves. |
Jan-29-12 | | Diarrhea: Sadler has had a shocking tournament as I'm sure he would agree. With his rating at 2660 and many players rated 2200, 2300, 2400, he should have chalked up a good number of wins, but drew most of the games. It admittedly must be anoying playing in a tournament with lots of players rating much lower than you, as you have to win more games to maintain the same rating, but he really should have steamrolled many of the lower graded players who he drew against. |
Jan-29-12 | | AlphaMale: He can retire again now in good conscience. |
Jan-31-12
 | | Penguincw: Yep indeed. Sadler lost 29 points, the most in the whole tournament. The next biggest loser was Topalov (in Group A) who lost 18. |
May-02-12 | | RookFile: < wow, interesting 1...a6 and 2...h6!!!!> It's not so interesting when you do what Botvinnik said. Against weird stuff, you should contruct a strong pawn center (pawns at c4, d4, e4, f4 etc.) and ask black what he does now. The mistake is to emphasize piece play. |

Mar-16-16 | | pazzed paun: Had a chance to skim sadlers new book chess for life about making a comeback at an advanced age Excessive amount of pace devoted to openings and their statistics |
Jun-14-16 | | Caissanist: For someone who's basically retired (only 6 rated games in the past year), he's doing awfully well. Currently he's only one rating point away from being England's #2 player. No doubt it helps that he lives in a country where he can get a single game against a strong opponent pretty much whenever he wants to. |
Apr-25-17 | | Caissanist: Continuing to steadily improve as a 42 year-old amateur, Sadler now has his highest FIDE ranking in 15 years. For the past few years he's only played in the English 4 Nations Chess League but, with a result of 7.5-0.5 in the last year's games, it seems that he knows what he's doing. |

Mathew is the 'World Colour Chess' Champion. (I had no idea what that was either). Basically, you have two moves each every turn. The board has many different colours, if you move to a blue square your opponent must move to a blue square. Then you opponent makes another move to any colour of square he likes, you must then copy the colour move and make a move of your choice. Normal chess rules apply.

 | | MissScarlett: <British Chess Magazine>, April 1988, p.151: <Do You Know Your Fischer?Matthew Sadler does! The Kent junior appeared on an ITV game show, "You Bet", on February 20, claiming to be able to identify any Fischer game he was shown on a chess board. He coped almost totally successfully. The astute viewer may have noticed the clue "Gligorich". The games were all taken from the Faber book <My 60 Memorable Games>, recently reprinted. However, the programme was planned last October but there was an unanticipated difficulty. The LWT producer could not lay hands on a copy of the book in London shops, or from the publisher. However the <BCM> helped out, as we still had a few left on the shelf!> I imagine Matthew sometimes wakes at night in a cold sweat, having dreamt about this clip having turned up and gone viral on the Internet. |

Oct-05-22 | | James J. Henderson: <WhiteRook48: I have one of Sadler's books. He has a win against some guy named Richardson that is outstanding. It doesn't seem to be in the database> I assume WhiteRook48 is referring to Sadler's book "The Slav" (Everyman Chess, 1997, ISBN 9781901259001), in which Game 1 is referenced as Richardson-Sadler, Islington Open 1995. (Sadler writes of this game: "This was a crucial game for me: I was leading the Islington Open by only half a point and only a win would guarantee first place. However, even more importantly, only a win would be good enough to pip Keith Arkell for the Leigh Grand Prix!") Does anyone know if the Richardson whom Sadler defeated in this game is Kevin Derek Richardson, with FIDE I.D. 405477? |
May-20-23 | | WhiteRook48: <James J. Henderson> I don't think "The Slav" was the title of the book that I had (I also don't think I still have it). I think I had his "Tips for young players" (1999) instead. |
