May-23-04  James D: Sam Sloan continues to amaze me. On a lark I decided to see if he has any chess games here and lo and behold he does. He even played Anand! I doubt if I could last 28 moves. I even talked twice to the controversial man by sending him an IM. Could`nt believe it when he actually answered.
May-23-04  WMD: Sam, we know its you. Now stop it.
May-23-04  Lawrence: <James D>, alias Sam or not, welcome to our cozy club.
May-23-04  James D: LOL ! No its not Sam. Ive heard a lot about him and once I just IM`d him and he answered. Thanks for the welcome .
Jun-26-04  Dick Brain: I believe famous chess gadfly Sam Sloan AKA Ishmail Sloan has been said to be a polygamist with several wives and children in the arab world with names like Shemema Malzool. I believe he has also interviewed 9/11 terrorist Osama Bin Laden and Ray Weinstein at his sanitarium.

Joshka: Sam Just recently I have run across you and your site!...your an amazing man, with many interests, some not unlike my own! I've always been 'dancin' to the beat, played on my little drum"....uhmm McCartney 'Tug of War"?...your site has a way of stealing sometimes 4-5 hours in a single setting!:-)....will probably take me months to catch up on your life!...thanks for 'Ricky Nelson's "Travelin' Man"....always loved his music......also if your a Darin (Bobby)fan....Spacey is going to play his life story in his new movie due out this fall, now being filmed in Germany and England. Spacey is singing all the lead vocals himself!!...always wondered how good Darin was at chess?...never have been able to come across any of his games. Read in many of his bio's that he played many games during the last few days of his life...and that he wanted to sponser the largest funded tournament in 1973, but his health of course took a turn for the worse. regards Bruce Towell

Joshka: <WMD> Is this guys site amazing or what??:-)...oh btw who is Walter Mitty?, pardon me for my ignorance..
Oct-06-04  Pawsome: joshka:
Walter Mitty is famous fictional character of James Thurber's. A mild mannered sort, bland, balding and wearing a mustache - he exists in cartoon and fiction.
Oct-06-04  Pawsome: Thanks for the tip Joshka, I checked out Sam Sloan's website and discovered A National Enquirer of the chessworld complete with will accusations against Ray Keene involving an obscene sounding practice called pumping and dumping, and a story about a guy who drew Bobby Fischer years back and decided to take a day off from his job playing skittles for five bucks a pop infront of the World Trade Tower on the fateful day the zealous Saudis decided to park a pair of jumbo jets on the upper floors. All this to the accompaniment of Johann Stauss (I could do withoout the soundtrack actually.) Wild stuff. The product of a quirky mind – the kind of mind that opens with 1. g4.

offramp: I was going to go to the site; but now that Pawsome says it has music I have had second thoughts.
Oct-06-04  Phoenix: The music's all right, almost always classical and you can turn the music off by hitting the "stop" button next to your "refresh" button.
Dec-20-04  Novice713: What kind of a person is Sam Sloan? What kind of of things does he write about? I've read a few things on his Website, and from what I've seen so far, I don't think much of him.
Dec-20-04  percyblakeney: A quick glance on http://www.ishipress.com/ is more than enough...

offramp: I have never really understood why some people have such a problem with Sam. I have read a lot of his posts at rec.games.chess.misc and in general they just seem like normal Joe Schmo posts.
Dec-20-04  percyblakeney: His list with photos and descriptions of all the third world prostitutes he has used over the years (links 50-100 from below on his home page) doesn't endear him to me all that much.
Dec-20-04  aw1988: Sam Sloan sounds like a detective.
Dec-20-04  cuendillar: Quite full of himself
" would be very happy to play the Damiano's Defense against Teimour Radjabov.

The only condition would be that he not be told in advance what opening I was going to play so that he would have no chance to study and prepare in advance.

I would bet that I would survive the opening with a playable game, although he might eke out a win in the endgame." - Sam Sloan

Anyone who sees a possibility to make money here...

Dec-20-04  rover: Sam Sloan is infamous for reporting Peter Leko's death on chess newsgroups in 2002.

Sneaky: Really?? Why would he do such a thing?
Dec-20-04  acirce: <A cruel hoax originating from his native Hungary stated that Leko had died in a tragic car crash late Sunday night in Budapest, and the news had filtered through to former women's world champion Susan Polga (the elder of the three famous Hungarian chess-playing sisters) in New York, who at the time was playing on the ICC and posted a brief note to that effect; though prudently added she would have to check her own contacts back home to confirm.

Unfortunately from here the rumours soon ran out of control, thanks to one over-eager online newshound looking for a "scoop" -- regardless if the information is right or wrong. Without checking the facts, or even confirming with the relevant authorities as any competent journalist would do under such circumstances, the infamous Sam Sloan (who doubles as a New York taxi driver during the day) immediately posted Leko's death as matter-of-fact "breaking news". Incredulously, Sloan's sloppy piece of work also went as far as to report "that Leko died in a car crash while analyzing a game he had played against Shirov on a pocket set".>

Sneaky: <Scientists say that when Mars became too dry to sustain life, they had to leave and fly to Earth! The Face on Mars: Scientists have confirmed that it really is a face! http://www.ishipress.com/marsface.htm > And people say that Fischer is crazy...
Dec-20-04  azaris: <Scientists say that when Mars became too dry to sustain life, they had to leave and fly to Earth!> That would certainly explain Sam Sloan.
Dec-21-04  Novice713: If martians were really trying to create a face on Mars, seen under high resolution, then they were pretty poor artists.
Dec-22-04  aw1988: Heh, this page is interesting. Well, conspiracies abound, and Peter Leko lives.
Jan-18-05  muddywaters: i bought his book 'chinese chess for beginners' a long time ago, so couple of months ago i saw that book, and was on internet so i typed in his name, and saw he had a site, what do i findfor section in his site, pics of asian prostitutes he f****d and such. this guy is very weird
