Feb-21-05  woodenbishop: Does anyone know how to get in touch with Sam Sloan? I've tried sending him an e-mail regarding his literary work on IM Raymond Weinstein but I keep getting messages that state my mail cannot be delivered for some technical reason.
May-06-05  woodenbishop: Didn't Sam Sloan once work as a porn director?

Eric Schiller: Sam will run for any kind of office. I can't resist posting this link: http://www.removerepublicans.com/da...

(For those who don't know Sam, the web page is serious, but it ain't him!)

:-)

May-24-05  Jamespawn: Hey woodenbishop I`ve talked to Sam . Do you want me to see if he will e mail you? I`ll try to get him to post on his page. One time I sent him an Instant message and couldn`t believe it when he answered.
Jun-02-05  woodenbishop: <Jamespawn> Thanks for the offer... my e-mail address is cognitivepawn@aol.com
Jun-02-05  woodenbishop: <Eric Schiller> That's a hilarious link! Btw, your game against the great Reshevsky during a simul is impressive... was it the only game the two of you ever played?
Jun-07-05  JustAFish: <the web page is serious, but it ain't him!>

I'm curious what you mean by this:

To my mind this could mean one of two things:

1) The nature of the website doesn't reflect his in-person manner or,

2) The website is managed by someone other than Sam Sloan

BTW, did everyone else get that mass mailing from www.checkmate.us in which Sam railed against the current USCF leadership without really offering any concrete proposals of his own?

Eric Schiller: <wooden> we played no other serious games, I didn't manage to get paired with him at Reykjavik 1986. We werent' exactly friends, he seemed to bear a grudge about that game getting published in the NY Times.
Jun-08-05  Dionyseus: <justafish> He simply meant that it really isn't Sam Sloan the chessplayer, it's just another person with the same name.
Jun-09-05  Dionyseus: Check out lesson #2 of Sam Sloan's show, downloadable here: http://www.ishipress.com/samchess2....

Jun-10-05  JustAFish: <Dionyseus> re: <He simply meant that it really isn't Sam Sloan the chessplayer, it's just another person with the same name.>

That may well be, but the website certainly has a picture of Sam Sloan the chessplayer- if, indeed, Sam Sloan the chessplayer is the same guy running for board in ChessLife's pages. The Sam Sloan on this page, however, might be a different one than that political aspirant.

Jun-10-05  Dionyseus: <JustAFish> Look closer, there are noticeable differences. The republican Sam Sloan in Hawaii has white/gray hair, whereas Sam Sloan the chessplayer has black hair. The republican has a thicker face.
Jun-10-05  Swapmeet: While I do like the fact that someone out there is doing a regular chess show, he definately needs to change the format a little. On the show he uses an overhead shot of a tournament set. You can't tell one piece from another and the lighting is horrendous. Buy a demonstration board man!
Jun-10-05  Illogic: Demonstration boards are so hideous to look at though. I think so anyway. I say just tilt the camera a little so it is not looking directly down at the board, and yes the lighting needs to be better.

Cool show though.

Jun-10-05  Dionyseus: How about figurines like the one in the famous Kasparov picture here in CG.com? Garry Kasparov

Would make it easier to tell one piece from another.

I liked the show too, I'm hoping they make the rest of the episodes available for download.

Jun-10-05  zorro: Lone Sloan was main character of a fantastic comics from early 80's, is this guy a relative by any chance? Or was the comics named after him?
Jun-10-05  aw1988: This man worries me. One issue in Chess Life he gives no speech on his running for presidency or whatever, and then the next he sais "The men from USCF are theives, do not listen to them, mine is the only valid application.". Hmmm.
Jun-10-05  JustAFish: <Dionyseus:>

It's the same guy, he's just aged a bit. Scroll down about halfway on the website, and you'll see the more youthful pic that is used to accompany the ChessLife screeds.

Jun-10-05  AgentRgent: <JustAFish> I only see one picture of a Sam Sloan on that page (http://www.removerepublicans.com/da...) And it's not the Sam Sloan of the USCF .
Jun-10-05  JustAFish: Ahh... I see the problem. I was refering the the http:/www.ishipress.com website and believed that Eric was doing the same when he said "It ain't him." I thought the removerepublicans site was just a cute, coincidental, tangent. My bad.

offramp: I am reposting this from somewhere else:

"- Sam Sloan reports that he is now in Chicago, and
- now the mail-delayed pledge of Stan Booz has been
co-signed/guaranteed by Randy Bauer, and
- the Match Arbiter has practiced entering moves into ICC, so this means...

...the 1st Annual RGCP Grudge Match is ready to begin later this (Sunday) morning!

You can follow the games of this wholly unique live event, the 1st Annual RGCP Grudge Match, on the Internet Chess Club on Sunday, June 26th (TODAY)! Watch the players battle it out for a $1000 cash prize! If you don't have an account or an ICC client yet, go to http://www.chessclub.com and set yourself up. It's free.

To follow the all of the games of the match, use the "follow" command in your Main Console Window on ICC
(http://www.chessclub.com/help/follow) _before_ the match begins, or the "observe" command (http://www.chessclub.com/help/observe) to just watch a single game of the match.

Feel free to kibitz during the match and/or analyze with or without the help of computers/databases/books. The players will *NOT* see your comments. Match Arbiter, Vince Hart, has offered to give some running commentary on ICC on the players during the match. To chat during the match, see:
http://www.chessclub.com/helpcenter...

The ICC login which is being used for the match is: GRUDGE05

The games in the match start at:
10:00AM CDT (Central Daylight Time)
1:00PM CDT
4:00PM CDT (only if necessary)
7:00PM CDT (only if necessary)
To get GMT/UTC, just add 5 hours to these times.
As RGCP is something like the WWWF of the chess world, we should also have some apropos pre-match quotes. The players have obliged!

"My primary goal--heretofore unstated, but evident to all but the brain-damaged--is to minimize the lies that Sam Sloan and Larry Parr spread during this election campaign. To delay the match would defeat that purpose. That Sam Sloan happens to be a kiddie @#$%er is convenient to my purpose." - Bill Brock (referring to this match), June 19, 2005

"I plan to beat the @#$%ing @#$% at chess out of this *sshole Bill Brock, so please have your money ready." - Sam Sloan, June 23, 2005

[Eliding of the "earthiest" letters of these quotes was done by this poster]

So RGCP wallflowers, kickback in your easy chair with a six-pack of brewsky because caissic "pig-wrestling" is coming to Chicago and the ICC!

T.S."

Report ends.

Joshka: Sloan and Brock are going to have a Grudge Match carried on ICC? Time Controls? This has to be a hoax right?
Jun-26-05  azaris: <Joshka> If it sounds weirder than life itself and involves Sloan, it's probably true.
