tpstar: I know this is a family site, but ya gotta love the smack talk! LOL

<azaris> Any fisticuffs yet?!

Jun-26-05  azaris: <tpstar> From what I've gathered, Sloan is the kind of person you don't even wan't to get in the same room with, let alone get physical with.

The humor value might well increase - Sloan is famous for playing the Damiano as Black.

Jun-26-05  azaris: Things seem to be heating up in Game #2, both Sloan and Brock and missing things left and right and the kibitzing is getting quite animous.

Ron: Hey, I was in the company of Bill Brock last night, with two other chess players. Brock did point out that Sam Sloan sometimes plays offbeat openings.
Jun-26-05  micartouse: The stories and pictures on this Chessbase article are classic:

Ron: In the second game between Sam Sloan and Bill Brock, it seems that Brock started to lose his advantage with the move 20. Nf5, allowing his rook to be traded for a bishop. Brock could have simply moved Re1 and preserved his strong advantage.

a) Are you a Woody Allen fan? b)Do you harbour some sort of personal grudge against either of the players?

Eric Schiller: It is all over, Sam Sloan won the first Chess Politician Grudge Match, defeating Bill Brock by a score of 2 games to 1, despite Brock holding clearly winning positions in all games. Give Sam credit for resistance and resourcefulness (he earned his $1000 prize), but please don't put these games in databases! They are rather painful to behold.

Thanks to the organizers, sponsors and players for an entertaining afternoon of something vaguely resembling chess. The 3 dozen spectators at ICC had a great time watching.

Jun-27-05  azaris: It also appears Sam Sloan has been awarded the "Best Game Prize" for Game #3, although it is truly a mystery to everyone involved as to why this game would qualify for such a prize.

Well, I have submitted them; I think there is a historical precedent. There are games by other politicians in the database - and most of them are of poor quality. If there is room I think they should go in.

Aug-08-05  midknightblue: Sam Sloan has some very interesting and highly unusual letters in chess life, and even stranger websites. He is looking to shake things up in the USCF, and certainly would succeed in doing that if he were elected (dont know if the election is over yet). Does anyone have the link to his real website? it has all kinds of stuff on the site, not just chess.
Aug-08-05  Pawsome: <midknightblue>> The link can be found in Chessbase article cited by <micartouse> above. Be warned before you log on, there's really annoying music so turn down the volume on your machine.

offramp: A free book of the incredible RGCP grudge match is available here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WAW8J0CH
The book is in .pdf format and you might need DiagramTTFritz font to be able to view it.

It is published in collaboration with Weltgrschichte Des Schachs; comments are from the ICC log of the event - these are given in full.

Does anyone know a female chess player nicknamed "the Shuttle"?
