1. Dealt poorly with illegals
2. Reagan deficit spent
3. Lack of social conservative policies

Number three is interesting. What specifically would you have liked to see Reagan do for social conservatives?>

Well, my thiking is that dealing with 2 would have helped with 3.

The defeat of Heritage America on item 3 is specifically due to the defeat of Heritage America on item 2!

Pretty much, the problem with America is government spending. OK, I should not single out America for that problem. It plagues all Nations.

Sep-26-20  thegoodanarchist: < Jambow: Reagan normalized deficit spending or congress did?>

If you want to argue that they were complicit, I won't contest that. But the President shoulders the lions share of burden.

Sep-26-20  Big Pawn: <Tga: Well, my thiking is that dealing with 2 would have helped with 3.>

If you were Reagan's advisor, and for the sake of argument, let's just pretend that Reagan would have done whatever you advised him to do to deliver on <social conservative> issues, what would you have advised him to do?

To put this another way, which social conservative issues specifically did you have in mind?

The kind of answer I'm looking for is one that we already agree on: illegal aliens.

I would say that if I were Reagan's advisor and he would do whatever I said on social conservative issues, I would have advised him against amnesty, put the national guard at the border, and do whatever he could (Trump styles, threaten to raise tariffs).

That's a clear answer that's easy to understand and it speaks directly to the point.

What are the other social conservative issues that you would have advised Reagan on?

To put it in order:

1. What are the other social conservative issues you have in mind during Reagan's time?

2. What would you've had Reagan do on those issue?

I'm trying to get away from generalities and get into specifics.

Sep-26-20  Big Pawn: My last post to <TGA> is open to anyone else that thinks they have a good answer.
Sep-26-20  diceman: <Jambow:

Democrats normalized victims, which is still going strong 31 years post Reagan. Grow the underclass, grow the government.

Sep-26-20  diceman: Also, before we start blaming Republicans, we need to remember this:

<Since the Democratic Party first controlled both houses in 1837 under the 25th Congress, it has held control of both houses for over 75 years under 35 Congresses>

With 1994 being the first time, Americans have rarely been intelligent enough to put conservatism in charge.

Anything Reagan did was a negotiated settlement.

I should add, dealing with 1 would help with 3.

Also, ending the guaranteed student loan program would help immensely. There would be no money for gender studies or critical race theory or any of that evil propaganda. Plus, that chit is useless and unnecessary for economic productivity.

Sep-26-20  thegoodanarchist: GSL started in 1965. The 1960s was a horrible decade for this country. It's when the seeds of our destruction were sewn.

4. End GSL
5. End no-fault divorce.
6. End family court. Only 1 court system, and it follows the Constitution, not the Duluth Model.
7. Roll back the "Great Society" (1960s again).
8. Put prayer back in school. We had prayer in school probably from the time we had school. What changed about the Constitution in 1963? Nothing. We just had evil men on the SCOTUS. 9. End forced busing of school students.

If he really, truly believed "I'm from the government and I'm here to help" is the scariest phrase in the English language, then 2, 4, 7 and 9 are no-brainers.

There was no significant liberalism in ANY political party in this country before 1860.

Even after 1860, nearly everyone was still <socially> conservative. The Socialist party didn't come along until the 20th century. 1901, in fact.

Tell that to Dred Scott, and the slaves on the plantation.

<GSL started in 1965.>

When blacks became human beings in 1964, Democrats switched over to plan B.

As LBJ allegedly said:

<If they're gonna vote, they're gonna vote Democrat.>

Seems to be working!

Sep-26-2 technical draw: I'm going to be a prophet in my own time: On Nov. 4, 2020 there will be thousands of discarded face masks lining the streets. And it matters not which candidate wins on Nov. 3. There will be no more incentive to use or not use that face mask. The power of protest via face mask will be over. Politicians will not care anymore since the mandate of face masks has never been a health issue but a political one. And that will be resolved on Nov. 3.

Politicians will not care anymore since the mandate of face masks has never been a health issue but a political one. And that will be resolved on Nov. 3.> This post is so true it's not even funny. I was expressing this exact point to a number of people I know and they mostly seemed to agree.

True, COVID-19 is dangerous and deadly and people died from him, more than with a regular flu, but the <epic> overreaction to it seems politically motivated in many ways. However, one argument against that is the fact that other countries are mandating mask-wearing as well, such as Israel. Israel is mandating masks and implementing a hardcore lock down as you may have heard. Is this because of Trump's election come November? I would think not.

Nonetheless, it strikes me as overtly political. When I see people driving around by themselves in their cars and they have their masks on, I just know they are voting for Biden and it's Orange Man Bad time all the time. I know that the Mask Nazis who go around confronting people in the store, in the restaurants, on football fields (you saw the mother who was tasered for not wearing a mask outside at a football game when she was sitting next to only her mother and her kids? - very ugly) are all libs. They get off on flexing their political muscle.

It's like when I was a kid. Maybe my father would say that all of us kids need to stop playing a game or something and my little brother would LOVE to be the one to get to come over and tell us all what we <have> to do. Even though he was speaking for my father, it was as though he was wielding the power himself and he liked that.

There may well be masks covering the streets of America from California to Massachusetts the day after the election, but never underestimate the energy that the libs have when it comes to pursuing evil. They may get the idea that these masks aren't coming off until Trump is out of office, if only to ruin his miraculous economy.

Well, the masks can't come off <unless> you are gathering in the hundreds or thousands to burn down a police station, utterly destroy an entire city, shoot some cops or smash windows and grab what you want. Then it's okay.

Sep-27-20  technical draw: <BP> Yes, I considered other countries that mandate masks. It is a strange phenomena. On the one hand there may well be fear of mass infections where masks serve a prophylactic purpose. On the other hand the same political fear that may cause some countries to overreact becomes contagious (pun intended). This is a social problem that mirrors an individual problem, the fear of being wrong when everyone else is right.

And since masks prove "negative evidence" i.e. that the infection rate has reduced since the mask mandate without having a "non mask mandate" to compare it to.

Which reminds me of the gag when the kid brings an Iguana home and the mother asks him why he did it. "To keep the lions away." And the mother answers, "There are no lions here!" And the kid says, "See, it's already working!"
