I cannot judge for certain but at least history shows us that it has been common in practically every society to have a religion. Most traditional societies have had religions that are characterized by a cyclical structure, they are mostly polytheistic and - I here agree with Mircea Eliade - they share the concept of the "eternal return". Put shortly, this is a concept of a mythical "golden" age that once existed in the beginnings of time, and the goal of Man is to reexperience this time. Sometimes it is expected that the golden age will somehow return, i.e. Judgment Day in Christianity. So I agree that a religious belief could be a default position; the actual religion is decided more by local tradition and culture. Of course Christianity and Islam being exclusive and missionary religions, these have conquered many areas that were previously characterized by traditional "Nature religions". As for the other part of your comment - that it takes a wilful suppression to not believe - I can only speak for myself. I was raised a Christian and gradually lost my faith in the early teens, definitely not through a wilful undertaking, it just happened. But there could have been subconscious motives at work of course. |

They couldn't explain how Chimpanzees who supposedly are 98% identical to humans despite being 10% longer, despite only counting SNP insertions and not accounting for deletions etc... There were many other things they couldn't answer for so they shut down the forum what else did they have? I mean there were other topics and they were up against a public school educated Postal worker but even some of those who mocked me started to acknowledge my logical arguments and empirical evidence was better. This is not acceptable so applied censorship ultimately not unlike what is happening in America today. They don't want logical discourse it isn't in their favor. |

The funny part was they were claiming the soft tissue wasn't really soft tissue until Dr. Schweitzer demonstrated conclusively that is what it was to the nth degree. Then it was ok but it was hermetically sealed as if it would still last millions of years. Then they tried to explain the C14 by leaching except that throws the hermetically sealed environment out the window and some how C14 is not in the surrounding sedimentary rocks either like it leached into the sealed bones without first passing through the rocks... Never once was it maybe they aren't millions of years old, that would be sacrilege ;0] The explanations for the perfectly carved Stegosaurus on the Cambodian temple column yielded some creative explanations to say the least. So yeah the shut it down...
