Annie K.: Well that one anyway... I suspect <Sneaky> has a couple of others lined up just in case! ;)

<Bookie> how about bets on the Amber games too?

Mar-16-08  Micawbr: <ChessBookie> The Amber Rapid: Rd 2: Pick Three will close after one or two of the results are known. Also, Amber Blind: Rd 3: Van Wely vs Ivanchuk, should close tomorrow and not today. It looks like the two bets closing times were transposed. Round 2 is underway now.
Mar-16-08  Micawbr: <ChessBookie> I was wrong about the Rapid Pick 3 closing time, I thought the games between the two players were played Blind and Rapid back to back. I couldn't access the website to delete my message, sorry.
Mar-17-08  capybara: <chessbookie> The round four pairings are wrong, the round three pairings seem to have been duplicated. Anand should be playing against Leko, and not against Topalov who he played today.
Mar-17-08  malthrope: <capybara: <chessbookie> The round four pairings are wrong, the round three pairings seem to have been duplicated. [...]>

Right you are <capybara> :-) I kept hoping that <ChessBookie> would get it all fixed before the end of Round III. Hopefully, we'll all get a chance to place our bets on this (correct pairings)...

Round IV // Tuesday // March 18th

14:30 Blindfold

Gelfand - Van Wely
Karjakin - Ivanchuk
Aronian - Carlsen

16:00 Blindfold

Kramnik - Morozevich
Anand - Leko
Mamedyarov - Topalov

17:45 Rapid

Van Wely - Gelfand
Ivanchuk - Karjakin
Carlsen - Aronian

19:15 Rapid

Morozevich - Kramnik
Leko - Anand
Topalov - Mamedyarov

It's going to be marvelous! :^) - Mal

PS: Don't forget <Free/Rest Days> on March 19th (Wednesday) and March 24th (Monday). Also, the last Round XI (March 27th, Thursday) starts two hours earlier beginning at 12:30 hours. ;)

Chessgames Bookie: Sorry about the mess-up. Refunds have been issued for all of the erroneous round 4 bets. We feel there isn't enough time to open up blindfold betting today but we put up the rapid events. Betting will return to normal on March 20th.

Chessgames Bookie: We also squeezed in one blindfold game for today, the one that everybody will be watching:

Amber Blind: Rd 4: Kramnik vs Morozevich

Yep! ;-) Thanks <ChessBookie> - We know you did the best you could and that's all we can ask for... :)) - Mal

Annie K.: <Bookie> the Amber Rapid: Rd 6: Kramnik vs Gelfand game bet is closing half an hour too late.
Mar-22-08  malthrope: Right Annie! :) And, one last quick fix should do it... The final Round #7 Rapids match-up between 'Carlsen-Anand' is also lagging behind the others by 30 minutes. That's all <ChessBookie> for this round! ;) - Mal

Mar-24-08  YouRang: Will there be wagering on 38...? in Chessgames Challenge: The World vs G Timmerman, 2007 ?

Chessgames Bookie: Wagering on Timmerman's 38th move has been added. Chessgames Challenge: The World vs G Timmerman, 2007.

We would like to remind everyone that the last day of betting on the championship winter leg will be Thursday, March 27. Wagering will close at 7:30 AM (Eastern/USA). Good luck!

Mar-26-08  Micawbr: <ChessBookie>http://www.amberchess2008.com/ Score-Tables, Pairings / Results has an error in the round 11 Blind matchups: Gelfand-Anand should be Topalov-Ivanchuk. Gelfand and Anand play in Round 10.

The Open Events Round 11 bets have the same error.

Chessgames Bookie: <Micawbr> Thanks for the correction, the official site has the wrong pairings.

We've added one last exotic wager on the final round of Melody Amber: Amber Blind: Rd 11: Pick Three.

Betting on the Championship Winter Leg will close tommorrow, March 27 at 7:30 AM (Eastern/USA). Good luck to everyone!

Mar-27-08  YouRang: Here's an idea regarding the GM Timmerman game:

Let people wager on which month the game will end: Apr08, May08, Jun08, ..., Dec08 or later? :-)

Stonehenge: Great idea, I'll put a bet on August 2137.
Mar-27-08  fosca: Can anyone explain why all of my blindfold winners in the Amber tournament have the payouts dramatically reduced (and not by the same percentage for each)?

I thought it said multiple winners would all pay, isn't that how it works? Was this one different? Thanks for any help.

Chessgames Bookie: ♔ LADIES AND GENTLEMEN ♔

The 2008 Chessbookie Championship is now over! With great pleasure we announce the winners:

Maintaining 25,845 chessbucks for most of the legs, the unassailable User: percyblakeney secured first place. This makes him the << 2nd annual Chessbookie Champion of the World! >>

Percy will be receiving two free premium years membership at Chessgames.com, plus a $75.00 gift certificate from Amazon.com to buy chess books, DVDs, or anything his heart desires. (Percy, we'll be getting in contact with you soon to verify your email address. Please write to chess@chessgames.com if you don't hear from us in the next day.)

Second place runner-up, close behind with 24,523 chessbucks, was User: Sneaky. He wins two free years premium membership to Chessgames.com.

Third place runner-up is User: technical draw who's last minute efforts netted him a total of 20,625 chessbucks. He will receive 1 free year premium membership to Chessgames.com.

Runners up 4 through 10 are:

(4) Andoy 18,598
(5) protean 17,022
(6) Fredrik 15,619
(7) Akavall 15,614
(8) NakoSonorense 15,390
(9) Hot Logic 14,364
(10) Micawbr 13,748

And all of the top 10 players are invited to return next year during the Winter championship to have another go at it.

< WHAT'S NEXT FOR CHESSBOOKIE? >

The Chessbookie will take a short vacation for the next few days and then the Spring Leg for 2008 will begin. During this brief intermission we'll use this forum to answer questions, and discuss ideas for possible improvements, rule changes, and other ideas for the upcoming year.

We sincerely would like to thank everybody who participated in this year's ChessBookie; it proved to be a lot of fun. We are looking forward to the next year's contest.

WannaBe: <technical draw> didn't finish dead last?!?! SHOCKING!
Mar-27-08  percyblakeney: <Chessgames Bookie> Thank you very much for the fun game and generous prizes!

<Sneaky> was close to see to it that I was runner up for the third of four legs with a very strong finish, but my bets from Linares were enough to keep first place. I had 10 000 on draw in Carlsen vs Radjabov, 2008 so I should maybe thank Radjabov for 30. ... g5 as well :-)

Mar-27-08  gauer: How much did the Chessgames Bookie make in interest during this quarter off of interest? Just wondering how high up in the listings he'd be, or if he contributes his earnings back to some bonus pools (ie via the rake returns for round-off of tie-breaking winners), to keep the sum of all bets at (n players x 1000$ + the previous additional bonuses that previous leg winners receive).

Chessgames Bookie: <fosca: Can anyone explain why all of my blindfold winners in the Amber tournament have the payouts dramatically reduced (and not by the same percentage for each)?>

From the ChessBookie Game Help Page :

If there are two or more winning lines in an event (e.g. a tie for first place), all tickets for any winning bet will be paid off. The total "loser pool" (all chessbucks wagered on losing tickets) is split evenly among all winning betting lines—for example, with a three-way tie the loser pool would be split into thirds. Then those smaller pools are distributed to the winners normally. When this happens, the odds payed will be substantially worse than the final posted odds.

<gauer: How much did the Chessgames Bookie make in interest during this quarter off of interest?> I call it "juice" and not interest, for those curious I finished at 89,758 chessbucks.
