Jun-20-09 | | malthrope: <pulsar: <malthrope> I finally collected 400+ chessbucks. Not 900+ but not bad at all considering that the projected payout was around 300 yesterday when I checked. [...]> <pulsar> - I'm so glad everything worked out for you! :) <I liked Shirov's style since I played through his games more than a decade ago. Through his current ups and downs, I still hope he pulls through. :D> It's good to see the old guard play well! Don't think we seen the last of Shirov's fireworks... ;) Gelfand still continues to play well. As for Chucky, I never grow tired of his fantastic Chess games - win - lose - or draw! :D - Mal PS: BTW: Good to see the <ChessBookie> retains his sense of humor with the 2nd bet placed of what GM Nisipeanu will move first with - Bazna Kings: Rd 7: Nisipeanu vs Gelfand: First Move o_O Especially considering how well the previous "First Move" bet of Nisipeanu paid off - Bazna Kings: Rd 4: Nisipeanu vs Shirov: First Move ~lol~ Who knows? Maybe this bet will eventually rise to the previous heights of $11 c-bucks paid for every $10 bet! :P |

Jun-25-09
 | | Sneaky: It's looking like Chnebelgrind may win the leg, while SwitchingQuylthulg wins the exhibition. ;-) |

 | | Chnebelgrind: The runner up behind extraterrestrial <Switch> sometimes also receives a free year's membership.
Chessgames Bookie chessforum So we will see |
|
Jun-25-09 | | wordfunph II: <Chessgames Bookie>, i believe runner-up <Chnebelgrind> deserves 1-year free membership.. And 2nd runner up be granted half-year, just for a change.. |
|
Jun-25-09 | | technical draw: I think the person that ends up in 471th place should get a free lifetime membership. I wonder who's there? Oh, it's little ole me! |
|
Jun-25-09
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: I think if a winner has worked his way up from 1K to 40+K he should get an extra free year of premiumship. |
|
Jun-25-09 | | Ragh: What about an award for someone on 399th place. It is neither an even number nor a prime number. And most importantly, it is equal to 20^2-1. |
|
Jun-25-09 | | NakoSonorense: What about an award for the good samaritan user? I saw that <TD> was doing poorly (ha, big surprise) so I decided to show my solidarity with him and I ended up at the bottom too. Surely that must count for something? |
|
Jun-25-09 | | bharatiy: hey what about the gambler that's me who was +9000 at one point and ended at -7500. I deserve something for gambling all out. may be I should have stopped betting once I reached 9000+, I would have been second or third. Anyway had lot of fun! Hope these chess players wont draw their games this much!! Thank you everyone and Chessbookie for so much fun!! |

|
Jun-25-09
 | | Chessgames Bookie: <juan31> I'm not good at español but I think you're saying that Ivanchuk won, but your ticket didn't get paid. That's because we just paid those tickets off a minute ago--you should have your money now. |

 | | Chessgames Bookie: ♖ ATTENTION ♖
The 2009 Spring Leg is now over and we've tabulated the winners. In first place is a name we have all grown to recognize, our old friend <SwitchingQuylthulg> who finished first place at a staggering 40,044 chessbucks. (He came very close to breaking his old record of earnings in a regular season, which still stands at 41,037 from Summer '08.) The 9 runner-ups all qualify for the Championship leg to be held in winter: (2) Chnebelgrind (11,079 c$)
(3) moronovich (9,316 c$)
(4) Mate Hunter (9,246 c$)
(5) refutor (8,856 c$)
(6) grobler (7,794 c$)
(7) SloVice (7,634 c$)
(8) hcbsb (6,794 c$)
(9) Bradah (6,135 c$)
(10) jameskobe (5,549 c$)
NOTE: One member was disqualified because they started a new account after their first attempt didn't work out. I don't think they understood that this was prohibited and nothing indicates any outright cheating (like intentionally slanting the odds with one account, for the benefit of the other) but nevertheless we cannot qualify this member. Better luck to them next leg. For those who are curious, my profit on the season was 74,629 chessbucks, purely through juice and the profit of rounding off payoffs in my favor. The next leg is tentatively set to start on June 28th. At that point everybody's account will be reset to 1000 chessbucks, all debt forgiven, and new bets will appear for Dortmund and other major events. Good luck! |

 | | Chnebelgrind: Congratulations to <SwitchingQuylthulg>. For me it's a mystery how you manage time and again to achieve such high scores. Well done! |

 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <Chnebelgrind> I'm consistently lucky. :) Congrats self for winning and runners-up for qualifying, and thanks to <Bookie> the organizer! |

 | | moronovich: I see it is the winners corner right now :) So congratulations too both <Chnbelgrind> and <SwitchingGuylthulg>.Especially <SG> for making at again and again. There must be more than luck and gamblingpower to this achievement. My own journey went from -155o at the loanshark to the glory days of Motylev and Ivanchuk.Quite a struggle and hence satisfaction. And to <rogge> : Perhaps the loan<shark> has something against your avatar ? :) |

I was dropped by <Chessgames Bookie> from top 10 coz of my 3 accounts but I swear I never cheated by deliberately slanting the odds huh! Anyway, we thank <Chessgames Bookie> for a wonderful 2009 Spring Leg! See you then on the next leg.. |
|
Jun-26-09 | | Shajmaty: Impressive performance by <SwitchingQuylthulg> - congratulations! I was 2nd/3rd for some time until a horrible round at Bazna Kings... and finished as Bubble Boy (11th). C U at the Summer Leg! |
|
Jun-26-09 | | technical draw: Congratulations Switchy. I think I'll have to start betting some games to draw if I want to win anything. |

Jun-29-09
 | | Chessgames Bookie: <moronovich: <Chessgames Bookie> .Could you please, tell me when and how the prizes,if any,are distributed, concerning the last leg (april-june).Thanks in advance.> Sure. The three qualifying legs (Spring, Summer, and Fall) all have the same prize structure: the #1 winner gets a free 1-year premium membership and qualifies for the Championship; while places 2-9 don't win any membership but they do qualify for the Championship. As a qualifier yourself, this means that when the Winter Leg starts, you'll have 10,000 chessbucks along with all of the other qualifiers. Incidentally, there is no advantage in qualifying more than once (except that you'll thin the competition by stealing a seat which would otherwise go to an opponent). Therefore it's not uncommon to see players like yourself, already qualified, play with an "all or nothing" attitude during the Summer and Fall legs. You see, since you're already qualified, if you don't win the #1 spot this leg, you won't win anything at all. The championship leg (Winter) has a different prize structure, which we more or less ad-lib from year to year. It usually involves at least the first three places getting premium memberships, and the year's champion gets some sort of special prize, like a chess book, or a gift certificate at Amazon.com. We hope to be able to expand the annual prizes considerably in the future (by acquiring sponsors) but we can't make any promises--at least not yet. |
