cu8sfan: So your betting against you, to drive the odds up? How odd... (-:
May-03-06  percyblakeney: I'll try to convince myself about today's bet... Timman has won 4 of 5 against Hector, has white and is in good form while his opponent isn't. Can only be 1-0.

Timman leads and why not take a quick draw instead of risking something. He's never drawn Hector and it must happen sometime, draws are after all common among GM's and Timman should have drawn against both Berg and Cicak if they hadn't decided to try for more. ½-½ it is.

Last year Timman shared first in Sigeman ahead of Nakamura, but he should have lost against Hector, so 0-1 is a good bet at the present odds:

Timman vs Hector, 2005

Didn't work, I'll wait until the last minute and throw in some crazy bet...

Sneaky: You Stellwagen fans are out of your minds!!

Pontus Carlsson is no slouch! Pontus drew the 2nd and 3rd seeds (Hillarp-Person and Khenkin) and he defeated Cicak! He can surely hang on against Stellwagen... maybe even WIN!!

(As you can tell, I have a few bucks on Stellwagen and I'm bitter about what the odds are settling at.)

lostemperor: I wanted to put much money on Carlsson to find out this is not the same Carlsen ;)

lostemperor: Ok Sneaky you convinced me I double my stakes at Carlsson!
May-03-06  percyblakeney: Well, I didn't manage to convince myself and couldn't choose between win for Timman or draw, so no bet today for me...

Chessgames Bookie: There's a little problem with the Stellwagen-Carlsson game. We may have to refund all tickets.

The official site listed Stellwagen as having the White pieces today, so we listed our bet as "Stellwagen vs Carlsson" to denote this. However, the live game page is now showing Stellwagen with the Black pieces.

It would be unfair to let the wager continue if we had White and Black mixed up, therefore we plan on refunding all bets.

However, there is a chance that the error is in the live-game display and that Stellwagen actually has White in spite of what it shows on the screen, therefore we will wait for confirmation before refunding.

Chessgames Bookie: I just found that I misread the schedule from the official site; Stellwagen does indeed have the Black pieces today.

"All bets are off" as they say. The Timman game is still on. My apologies for the error.

May-03-06  martis27: <Chessgames Bookie> I bet on Carlsen in Carlsen-Wan Wely match. Carlsen won, but my ticket lost. What is going on?
May-03-06  naamloos: The bet on the match did not include the result of the tiebreaks, only the result after the four normal games.

Chessgames Bookie: Naamloos is right--the original bet, as listed, did not acknowledge the tiebreak system and referred only to a "four game match." The fact that "Tie" was one of the possible options is proof that the tiebreak system had no bearing on the bet.

Sigeman & Co: Rd 8: Timman-Fedorov

I expect them to draw, and I got big chessbucks on them so they better be drawing...

I want Anand to win the Mtel Masters!

Sigeman & Co: Rd7: Stellwagen vs Timman: OPENING May-04-06 May-04-06 French Defense

What?! The French??!! I knew I should stick to one of my fav. openings!

Also, How do you handicap yourself when betting? Do you look at rating/win-loss-draw or do you pick your fav. player.

May-05-06  naamloos: I look at the current odds and decide whether a possible outcome has been underrated. Those odds who I think are underrated I bet on. People especially seem to underrate the number of draws.
