May-05-06  naamloos: Timman - Federov has drawed. I'm glad they did as I had 1000 bucks on a draw.
May-05-06  percyblakeney: I had 500, but it sure is getting harder to earn something on draws, in the European Championships most draws had an odds close to 2.50...

lostemperor: My stategy is simple. I just look at the person ahead of me and say to myself I'm gonna get him today (as long as the gap is not bigger than 216) hehe.

WannaBe: Carlsen has to be odds-on favorite to win the Bosna Sarajevo Tournament.
May-05-06  percyblakeney: There are three 2690+ players in Sarajevo... I have no idea who to bet on.
May-05-06  acirce: Whom to bet on would depend on the odds! I have a feeling people are going to bet on Carlsen a lot simply because he's got many fans. Probably betting on a couple of the other favorites would be wisest.
May-05-06  DeepBlade: <percyblakeney> Indeed, its gonna be a very wild tournament, with strong GM's.

Im going to look at some games from the players (notable games, recent games) and go for the style/strong/solid player I like. Also Vladimir Malakhov (cool name), Liviu Dieter Nisipeanu and Arkadi Naiditsch (another cool name) have a good reputation, Ive seen a lot of games and I like the way they play. Its tough to make a choice indeed.

Chessgames Bookie: Betting is open on Sigeman & Co: Rd 9: Carlsson-Timman and Sigeman & Co: Rd 9: Fedorov vs Hillarp-Persson

  lostemperor: Ok, who is next!

;)

I'm going to lose on Sigeman's tournament winner though since I didn't bet on the top two seeds. Timman, because I figured he might save the best for the Dutch championship soon. So much for inside information.

May-06-06  refutor: i agree acirce, i've got some cash to spend so i was thinking about betting about 500 on each person to lower carlsen's odds, wait for the rush of carlsen-lovers and then put a big bet on who i really think is gonna win ;) or is that too treacherous?
May-06-06  MaCa: Turin Chess olympics are starting in few weeks... Why not to open some bettings early? The olympics also host computer champinships, which might be interesting.

Chessgames Bookie: Betting is now open for 37th Chess Olympiad: Gold Medal.

With 158 countries in the running, it was impossible to list them all, so we provided all of the historical favorites, plus a number of longshots, and finally the "OTHER" ticket in case a team not listed wins the gold.

WannaBe: I see that so far no one has bet on USA.
May-06-06  notsodeepthought: Wow, even Italy has more votes (2) than the USA. I confess that neither vote came from yours truly - suggesting that I will put even <chess>bucks before patriotism...

cu8sfan: Interesting betting on the Olympiad. Finally we find out where our bettors are coming from. (-:
May-07-06  percyblakeney: I placed my Sarajevo bet on Nisipeanu since he is most experienced, has the highest rating, and won't have to play Topalov this time. But I only risked the moderate amount of 25 chessbucks since my bigger tournament winner bets on Ivanchuk and Atalik weren't too successful...

Sneaky: I slapped a simoleon or two on the USA just to be patriotic. Now that's out of the way, I've got a couple hundred more to put on who I *really* think is going to win...

<cu8sfan> Ahhh so it was YOU who wasted 4 clams on Switzerland! ;-) And America will win the World Cup too! ;-)

May-07-06  Necessary Truths: Is there some reason why the "Sigeman & Co: Winner" bets have not been paid off yet? Will they be paid off today?

WannaBe: I didn't pick the winner in Sigeman... Nor did I pick the winner in the Kentucky Derby! =(

Chessgames Bookie: All Sigeman bets are now paid off.

Also we opened up betting on the three main boards for the Bosna tournament which take place tomorrow morning:

Bosna Sarajevo Tournament: Rd2: Sasikiran vs Predojevic

Bosna Sarajevo Tournament: Rd2: Nisipeanu vs Carlsen

Bosna Sarajevo Tournament: Rd2: Malakhov vs Naiditsch

May-08-06  Doctor Who: I was almost entirely broke and went to the loanshark to grovel for 100 chessbucks. I took my loan and slapped it all on Predojevic to win.

And I got paid... with 21 to 1 odds!! The loanshark got his money back and suddenly I'm back in the game. Chortle chortle chortle!

By the way, what happened to poor TIMER? He went from almost-first to almost-worst overnight!

  WannaBe: <Doctor Who> Lucky stiff. :-)
May-08-06  bumpmobile: <Doctor Who> Even luckier story...I meant to put 50 chessbucks on a draw, slipped, and put it on Predojevic instead. Boy was I suprised to collect a $1000+ this afternoon.

Sneaky: According to Chessgamers, the following facts are true about the game of chess:

#1 - Black never wins.

#2 - Carlsen and Topalov always win. Unless they have the black pieces, in which case the game is a guaranteed draw.

#3 - 99.9% of all chess games last between 30-50 moves.

#4 - There are two possible chess openings for any game: the Ruy Lopez and the Sicilian Defense.

#5 - Nations that have never won the Olympiad will never win the Olympiad in the future. (Why they even participate is a mystery.)
