Mtel Masters Rd4: Topalov vs Kamsky> wouldn't the odds change near the closing time for bets ? |

 | | Chessgames Bookie: ♗ Attention Please ♗
We made a small error concerning the time zone convertion for the Mtel games, and betting was open while the games were in progress. However, reviewing over the logfiles, no serious harm was done. A few small bets came in after the games had started and most of them ended up losing anyhow. However, there is a more serious issue I must now address. It has come to our attention that a certain user "giantwizard" has probably cheated. After studying the logfiles of his recent betting activity, as well as the back logfiles of what he was doing in April, we found irregularities which strongly suggest that he was deliberately manipulating the game. We will not divulge the details of exactly what he did. If he would like to contest this allegation he is welcome to write to us at chess@chessgames.com. His account is now set to zero chessbucks and he is locked out the game area. |

 | | Chessgames Bookie: Correctly pick all three results in round 3 of the Mtel Masters tournament for big winnings. Mtel Masters Rd3: Pick Three |

 | | WannaBe: Handicapper's Corner for Round 3,
<Ponomariov-Topalov>
Topalov leads over-all with +5 -3 =7. When Ponomariov is playing white, he is +2 -1 =4 versus Topalov. <Bacrot-Svidler>
Svidler leads it +3 -0 =6. When Bacrot is playing white, he is +0 -1 =3 versus Svidler. <Anand-Kamsky>
Anand leads it +12 -10(!!) =18. When Anand is playing white, he is +10 -4 =7 versus Kamsky. Good luck everyone for Rd 3! (I know I'll need it =) |

| May-12-06 | | Ezzy: <Chessgames Bookie ....We will not divulge the details of exactly what he did.> Go on, just give us a hint, I could do with a bit of help in the chessbucks department! :-) I know this isn't important because it is the same for everybody, but if you are an honest <Chessgames Bookie> you will explain where the stake money goes when somebody has a win. If I bet 10 chesbucks on a 4-1 winner you only pay me 40 chessbucks when I should get 50 chessbucks, because I should get my 10 chessbucks stake back. Using your system if I bet 10 chessbucks on an even money 1-1 winner I wouldn't win anything except get my 10 chessbucks back. I am thinking of consulting my solicitor over this issue because I suspect you have been giving the extra profits to giantwizard! :-) |

 | | Chessgames Bookie: Some fun bets for MTel round three:
Mtel Masters Rd3: Anand vs Kamsky: OPENING
and
Mtel Masters Rd3: Pick Three
<Ezzy> All I can say is that I think you are mistaken. If the odds are 4:1 and you have a 10 chessbuck ticket, you will cash in that ticket for 50 chessbucks. Most likely you are confusing decimal odds with fractional odds. |

 | | WannaBe: <Ezzy> I think I have an idea on how this can be accomplished... But it's just an idea... Given that any member have 1000 chess bucks to start with. It is possible to create many names, go to loan shark to obtain more chess bucks, and artificially inflate the odds on a wager/proposition. Then you bet on the other side. Then dump those names you have created, create more names, repeat the process. This creates an artificial infusion of chess bucks. But I don't know if this was the method used. =) |
| May-12-06 | | refutor: hmmm i'm only 700 chessbucks out of first place now and a bunch up on third place...i wonder if it's time to take a shot... |
| May-12-06 | | Ezzy: <WannaBe> You still have to pick winners and I haven't actually been doing that :-( <refutor - ....i wonder if it's time to take a shot...> With 8052 chessbucks it seems like you have been doing a lot of shooting already. Well done! Keep it up, but don't blow it all, try to keep in the top 10 at least, and then you will have a 10000 bundle for the world championship winter leg! There is still a lot of betting to come. The Olympiad for example. |
| May-12-06 | | acirce: Well, due to the fact that Bacrot didn't know how to draw an elementary ending, this day didn't go as well as it seemed. I got Svidler and Predojevic right, that's all, but at least it was enough to gain back some bucks after yesterday's disaster. |
| May-12-06 | | refutor: <chessbookie> (disclaimer : this is definitely to my advantage as i have a good shot of being in the top 10 of this leg) let's say a player is inthe top 10 in multiple legs, instead of discounting his finish and boosting the 11th guy into the top 10, wouldn't it make more sense to only give *9* guys 10000 bucks for the finish? that would make the previous winners take it a little more seriously |
May-12-06
 | | Chessgames Bookie: Who said anything about discounting a top-10 finisher just because they already qualified? The qualifiers are the top 10 finishers from the first three legs, regardless of whether or not they are already qualified. Nobody will start the Winter Leg with more than 10,000 chessbucks, regardless of how many times they have qualified, but it's still in a qualifier's best interest to try to squeeze out other possible competitors. In theory as few as 10 people will start the Winter Leg with the 9K bonus but we expect it to be closer to 25. |
| May-12-06 | | refutor: my mistake...thanks for the clarification |
| May-12-06 | | Ezzy: <acirce: Well, due to the fact that Bacrot didn't know how to draw an elementary ending,> Which in someway goes to prove that agreeing draws on the grounds that it is a theoretically drawn position, is nonsense when a 2700 player cannot do it. Perhaps Grandmasters don't know as much as they think they do! I think the M-Tel rule of no draw offers is the best rule ever to be incorporated into a tournament. The chess is more exciting to watch and the audience learns a lot more from the game, and the sponsors and fans of the game are not sold short when visiting a tournament. I say NO lazy draws. If you are paid well, then work for your money. |

| May-12-06 | | Doctor Who: My story is one of rags to riches! I've gone from knocking on death's door (the loan shark's door) to being in the top 10 list. |
| May-12-06 | | Ezzy: <Doctor Who> Yes but you can travel in time and get the results before they happen here on earth. That's a bit of an advantage I would say. |
May-12-06
 | | WannaBe: <Ezzy> Build a starship, sling-shot around the sun, get tomorrow's result, and then come back. Trust me, I've seen it work on Star Trek. =) |
| May-12-06 | | Doctor Who: The loanshark just told me:
<You sure know how to pick 'em, Doctor Who. I think we can extend your credit. How would you like another 1,250 chessbucks? > |
| May-12-06 | | Ezzy: <Trust me,> I would love to trust you <Wannabe> but I know you are a bit of a computer expert, and if you had any moral decency, you would help me hack into the 'chessBookie game' logs and manipulate my chessbucks account in my favour. Try to keep your BIG ears open for any information. :-) |
| May-12-06 | | Doctor Who: Yes, being a Time Lord does indeed have its advantages. |
May-12-06
 | | WannaBe: <Ezzy: ... hack into the...> Errr... No. =) Easier to build a star-ship. |
| May-12-06 | | Ezzy: The loanshark will not budge over 200 chessbucks for me. <being a Time Lord> This is a chess site, it should be a 'Tempo lord' |
