Oct-03-12  dakgootje: If the leg had ended sooner, people would've used different strategies and placed different bets ;)

Chessgames Bookie: OK folks, the Summer Leg is over and the Fall Leg will officially begin shortly. The surprise winner of the Summer Leg with a huge come-from-behind strike is User: JamesBJames. JamesBJames just received a free year of premium membership and, like all of the top 10, qualifies for the World Championship in winter.

The complete list of Summer Leg finalists (winner plus 9 runner-ups) with their finishing scores, is below:

(1) JamesBJames 21,281
(2) Barok Espinosa 18,186
(3) VoodooVoodoo 10,884
(4) Midas Touch 8,022
(5) bubuli55 7,544
(6) Beholder 7,524
(7) thomastonk 6,687
(8) Touch of Knight 6,537
(9) Annie K. 6,363
(10) wordfunph 5,693

A special note to (11) <AsosLight> who finished with 4,232 chessbucks: we are investigating an irregularity we found in the logfiles. We don't want to accuse anybody of foul play until we hear all sides of the story, but it's possible that we will disqualify one of runner-ups, thereby qualifying your 11th place finish. Sorry to tease you like that but under the circumstances it's the only sensible way to proceed.

Also, everybody on the winner's list (every user on Chessgames, really) should make sure that the email we have on file for you is in fact a working email, in case we need to contact you. Thank you.

In short, congratulations to JamesBJames and all of the runner-ups, and in just a few days we'll re-open the Chessbookie for bets on the next Bilbao leg and numerous other chess events in October. Good luck!

Sneaky: Of all my bets in the final round only one paid off <London Grand Prix Rd 11: SHORTEST GAME : Grischuk-Nakamura [cash in ticket] 100 YOU WIN! COLLECT 1354> Countless pick-threes tossed to the wind.

Ugh. This could actually be the first year that I don't qualify for the championship. I'm rolling up my sleeves for fall, it's now or never.

On the brighter side, BOTH Annie K and Natalia Pogonina are already qualified. Ideally everybody on my Favorite's List will be competing ;-)

Oct-03-12  technical draw: Well, I got my revenge. I stole $4,497 from the loanshark. Hahaha, uh, who's that knocking on my door?
Oct-03-12  wordfunph: sigh!! i made the cut yayy! :)

lost $500 hoping for decisive Chucky-Hao and Mamed-Leko games. Just like in chess, i am very poor in the endgames. I started well in the bookie opening, ladyluck smiled on me in the middlegame but somehow faltered in the endgame. I am calling on Capa :)

to my close running-mate <Annie K.>, congrats! we switched places at the end.

<(9) Annie K. 6,363>

to my fellow countrymen <Barok Espinosa> and <bubuli55>, grats! 3/10 for Filipinos! :-)

<Chessgames Bookie>, thanks for the wonderful contest and more power!

cheers to the winner <JamesBJames> and <others>!

Chessgames Bookie Bigwigs update coming soon..

Oct-03-12  technical draw: OK, so how does it work now? The fall leg next and then the championship leg?
Oct-03-12  notyetagm: <technical draw: Well, I got my revenge. I stole $4,497 from the loanshark. Hahaha, uh, who's that knocking on my door?>

The loanshark told me to tell you that you're going to need a case of aspirin, crutches, a wheelchair, and a full body cast when his boys get through with you.

Annie K.: <wordfunph> thanks, glad you made it too. :)

My last-round individual game bets didn't do so well, but the Pick Three... I placed 200 each, on only 4 options: B-W-D, D-W-D, B-D-D, and D-D-D. That did it. ;)

<Sneaky> thanks and good luck next leg!

Oct-04-12  WinKing: Congrats to those who made the 'top ten'! Nice job <JamesBJames> (21,281) being the Summer leg champion! Great finish!

OhioChessFan: Your pairing is wrong for Caruana - Carlsen. You have it listed with Carlsen as White.

OhioChessFan: Now I am thinking the entire Round 6 is messed up. Here's what the official site says are the Round 6 pairings:

Vallejo - Anand
Karjakin - Carlsen
Caruana - Aronian

OhioChessFan: Well, it's the official site that is wrong! Anyway, Carlsen has White against Carauna so everything is ok here.

  moronovich: dear <Bookie> !!

The official site has Karjakin - Carlsen...The danish bookmakers Carlsen - Karjakin and CG has Carlsen - Caruana...!?!?!

I wonder who is right and just wanted to alarm you in due time.

Oct-08-12  dakgootje: Carlsen has already played Karjakin with white - so the Danes are certainly wrong.

heh, I'd generally trust the official site ;)

Oct-08-12  technical draw: The session just started and I'm already down $110. I'm going to have to start betting on draws.
Oct-12-12  SloVice: Woohoo! Moving on up to east side!
Oct-12-12  dakgootje: It could've been so great.. But then Vallejo.. :(

In his defence, the position was pure chaos.

Anyway, I'm over 1k again :)
