Sneaky: This is upsettingly reminiscent of George W Bush's economic stimulus plan :-)
Oct-23-12  brankat: Consumerism!
Oct-27-12  Joules: Woo hoo! Saved me from a trip to the loan shark. Better still I turned it into a winning bet on the Unive round 4 daily double ;))
Oct-28-12  brankat: <Chessgames Bookie> The Chigorin Memorial just started. Perhaps we could have some betting action there?
Oct-29-12  Joules: The Chigoron round 3 pairings are getting interesting. http://chess-results.com/tnr83806.a...

Seeds appear to be ordered by total points earned in the tourney then by Elo rating. Early rounds have had pairing with 400-500+ point differences in rating. There were a few upsets and surprising draws, but how one might handicap such a large field with such a wide spread in ratings is beyond me. However, if this type of seeding continues, subsequent rounds could get interesting.

Oct-29-12  brankat: No action :-(
Oct-30-12  brankat: No wonder. The Bookie has not been seen in 8 days.

Chessgames Bookie: The 2012 Women's World Championship is coming up in about a week. It's a 64-player knockout to determine who gets to play Yifan Hou in 2013. So we've added this bet: Women World Championship: CHALLENGER.

Chessgames Bookie: So sorry! I had to refund that bet due to confusion over the conditions. We did not understand that Hou Yifan herself was to play in the event. We will set up a new bet shortly that includes that very important participant.

Chessgames Bookie: Here is the corrected wager:

Women's World Chess Championship 2012: WINNER

You can bet on all 64 participants. Good luck!

Chessgames Bookie: The rest-day at Bucharest caught us unprepared. For reasons previously discussed we're going to keep the betting closed, and set up some new bets from the Womens' Knock-out Championship to keep you busy.

OBIT: In the Women's Knockout Championship, each match consists of two games, followed by a tie-breaker. Are we betting on the result from the first two games? (A draw result doesn't make sense if we are betting on the match.)

  Annie K.: What's holding up the <Rd 1: Koneru-Denise Frick> payoff? Koneru won. :)

<OBIT> as the <Rd 1>, <Rd 2>, etc. details indicate, we are betting on the round results, not the match results.

OBIT: <Annie K> Actually, the "Rd 1" designation for the first set of bets just added to my confusion, since the bracket at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women%... identifies the first 32 pairings as "1st Round," with the 32 winners advancing to the "2nd Round," and so on. So, the Wikipedia article defines a round as the whole match, i.e. the two games plus (if necessary) the tiebreaker. However, now that we have a second set of bets, it is clear the bets are for individuals games, not on which player wins the match.

Chessgames Bookie: <Are we betting on the result from the first two games? (A draw result doesn't make sense if we are betting on the match.)> Honestly we were *thinking* of having bets for the matches but the way we wrote it up they would be assumed to be bets on the first game.

To add to the confusion at least one coloration was wrong. Give us some time to sort this out, our apologies.

Chessgames Bookie: OK, a few things:

1 - for clarity ever place we wrote "Rd 2" we changed to "Rd 1.2".

2 - Also we clarified which Muzychuk you are betting on, for the two bets Women's World Chess Championship Rd 1.2: Maria Muzychuk-Foisor and Women's World Chess Championship Rd 1.2: Mezioud-Anna Muzychuk.

3 - The Koneru-Frick wager has to be refunded. The actual game was Frick-Koneru. Sorry.

Nov-12-12  bubuli55: It's a good thing this is not real money :) I had the wrong impression myself. Charge to experience :)
