 | | WannaBe: not a single check... wonder how 'rare' that would be. Worth 5 bucks to find out. =) Thanks for answering my question. |
| May-16-06 | | aw1988: I've got Sicilian for Topalov-Svidler at 100.
May-16-06
 | | Sneaky: Who bet the Petroff for Topalov-Svidler? SVIDLER HAS NEVER PLAYED THE PETROFF IN HIS LIFE, FOLKS!! That's what you call "dead money." |
| May-16-06 | | technical draw: Right now I am tap city and I owe the shark 303 chess dollars. But I have 8 bets outstanding and if I win them all I'll jump to 11th place. Of course others in the top 10 will win some also and that may cause my positioning to vary, but you can see that being at zero (or even negative) is not that bad and a good streak will put you back in business. |
| May-17-06 | | TIMER: <technical draw> Even from -2120, second last, where I was a couple of days ago (after blowing all my money from being second with 4500 behind the later disqualified player), I could rapidly get back into the top ten if things go my way! I have lost patience and given myself a shot even from below -1000 to top ten in one day, but it could backfire and I could end up outright last if things all go against me! |
| May-17-06 | | bumpmobile: <First Check> I put 10 each on three "random" players. I win at least 10 if anyone of them wins, even more if any of them tie for first with each other. Yeah, I know "10 bucks...big spender", but I have to save my fake bucks to put my kid through fake college some day. |
May-17-06
 | | lostemperor: <TIMER> what happened to your conservative bettings intentions:). I suppose I can't speak for that either. I lost 1400 in two days and later 1200 in one day. In between I won 1000 in one day. That was the day Kamsky beat Anand with black. Although it wasn't on that bet. So much for my conservative bettings. |
| May-17-06 | | TIMER: <lostemperor> I lost my 4500 spreading my bets on Stallwagen winning or drawing trying to make a safe leap to 5 or 6 thousand, but I picked the one round that he lost! I got careless as if it were a certainty. So I was down to zero again, and have since been taking big risks and loans trying to get back up. I predicted a 10 to 1 correctly from -2120, but I could I could not get much more than 100 out of the loanshark. Hopefully, I get all my bets right one more time today now that I had over ten times more to gamble! I did get predictions right about 12 times in a row on my way up from 0 to 4500, so it is not impossible... |
| May-17-06 | | percyblakeney: My biggest bets have been on draws for tournament leaders in the last couple of rounds. When Kozul secured the European Championship through a ten-move draw in the last round the odds was as good as 2.59, but it has been much lower on Timman and Nisipeanu-Malakhov. |
| May-17-06 | | naamloos: I get my money mostly by making small bets. At this moment I have 22 tickets and highest one is 30 chessbucks.
It works for me, because I think I barely had one day in which I did not win at least something.
Now that I'm in the top ten I'm even more conservative, only betting with what I already am in front of the player right behind me. |
| May-17-06 | | TIMER: I could have up to about 3200 chessbucks from zero in either direction after today! |
| May-17-06 | | Landman: Hmm, at this stage (roughly move 13-15), it looks like the first check might be... Bacrot! =) |
| May-17-06 | | percyblakeney: Hmm, let's say I think that Pono will win today. I can bet on him as winner to less than 7.50, but if I instead choose pick three, with Pono and two draws, the odds is 96. I bet 100 on draw in Kamsky-Pono, but also 10 each on Pono+white+white, Pono+white+draw, Pono+draw+white and Pono+draw+draw just in case... |
| May-17-06 | | DutchDunce: YES!!! Finally my longshot came in on the pick three...3000 chessbux coming my way!! *drool* |
| May-17-06 | | technical draw: <naamlos> That's a good tactic. Once you're in the money bets tend to be more conservative. Nice going <dutch>. Don't spend it all in one place! |
May-17-06
 | | cu8sfan: That first check bet was fun. Surprising how late it was decided. Would have been fun to see a 3.♗b5+ Sicilian. |
May-17-06
 | | WannaBe: Handicapper's Corner for Round 7!
Anand-Topalov
Anand leads Topalov +19 -11 =34. When Anand have white pieces, he is +12 -4 =14 Bacrot and Kamsky have played twice, each winning with white pieces, this will be their third meeting. Ponomariov-Svidler
They are dead tied at +1 -1 =8. When Ponomariov have white pieces, he is +0 -0 =5 against Svidler. Good luck everyone. =) |

| May-17-06 | | Holden: Mtel Masters Rd6: Kamsky vs Ponomariov : Kamsky [cash in ticket] 1000 YOU WIN! COLLECT 2503 And I finally arrive on the leaderboard. Now begins the internal struggle of whether or not to begin betting more conservatively... |
| May-17-06 | | redribbon3700: Does anybody know when the spring leg finishes? |
May-17-06
 | | WannaBe: <redribbon3700> June 18th, which is also the last day of the National Open in Las Vegas. Where the bookie will offer such exotics as: Will WannaBe wake up in time for the 10 AM game, after a night of drinking and carousing. What will WannaBe eat for breakfast, now that he is broke after doubling down on 4-4 split when dealer had 9 showing on the blackjack table. (In his drunkenness, he thought the 9 was a six.) How often will WannaBe rub his temple and groan after dropping another piece. (And because of his hang-over.) And finally, Will WannaBe be check-mated in less than 20 moves or not. |
| May-17-06 | | technical draw: 100 wannaBe bucks on wannabe sleeping through his second game. (groan!, I have a game to play, uh, who are you?) |

| May-18-06 | | dakgootje: <And finally, Will WannaBe be check-mated in less than 20 moves or not.> Yes of course, easy WannaBe-bucks there, no way you survive more then...well say 15 moves ;-) |
| May-18-06 | | Chess Classics: Oh, Anand! I had you winning your game against Topa (100 chessbucks) and winning the tourney (50 chessbucks) Topalov-Anand Quinella (75 chessbucks) Anand-Topalov perfecta (100 chessbucks.) And to think I had 2500 chessbucks after Anand-Kamsky. BLAST! Hopefully Australia will win the Olympiad (11,000 chessbucks!:-)) Regards,
