All because of ONE longshot bet.

I've had two $1000 bets lose... So how much did I need this wager? Lol. If Komodolol and stocky draw by 3fold I'm seriously in the game and would like any winnings I may receive to be donated to the LM's in need foundation. My favourite charity.

Anyone else here ever won. $2000 from a $75 bet? What's the record? ✌

Penguincw: Happy Holidays <Bookie>! This year might have gotten off to a bad start, but it certainly ended on a high note.

As for all the competitors, good luck for the final 2 days.

chessgames.com: <Thanks(Wordfunph) You have been a wonderful and creative Bookie!> We second that emotion!

Please note that after the final bet is paid off we will review the logfiles for last minute confirmations and then recompute the leaderboard before making the official announcement of winners.

Also note that due to the missing leg this year there will be a minimum of 12 (not 10) qualifiers.

I third that (or whatever)! <wordfunph> has been an excellent bookie this leg. Just when I thought <Switch>'s performance couldn't be matched (enter <wordfunph>). :)

P.S. Who's going to be the bookie for the championship leg? Or will it be the regular bookie?

chessgames.com: Apologies for the delay; the leaderboard is correct as it stands. The winners of the Fall Leg 2014 are:

(1) TIMER (24,618)
(2) Touch of Knight (23,672)
(3) wallytherhino (13,202)
(4) scout118 (12,289)
(5) Golden Executive (8,747)
(6) shoshonte (8,082)
(7) SwitchingQuylthulg (7,290)
(8) bubuli55 (6,554)
(9) technical draw (6,503)
(10) dakgootje (6,330)
(11) Beholder (6,297)
(12) Kynas (6,125)

A close leg indeed! TIMER wins by a hair and claims a one-year premium membership. All 12 of them qualify for the Championship Leg to begin in early January. We will show a complete list of qualifiers shortly.

Dec-28-14  Touch of Knight: <TIMER> I tried to catch you, but I didn't manage. Congratulations!
Dec-28-14  wordfunph: <TIMER> and to all winners, congratulations!

<Touch of Knight> too close :) congrats!

cheers to our friend <Golden Executive> to wrest #5 from nowhere.

special thanks to <SwitchingQuylthulg> for helping me during my trying moments and to <chessgames.com> for the continuous support in running the contest.

Happy New Year to all my fellow chessbookie addicts!

Dec-28-14  TIMER: <chessgames.com>,<wordfunph> Thanks.

<Touch of Knight> Thanks. I was leading most of the leg and was playing it very safe the last month or so (years ago I used to lead in some legs and end with nothing to show for it usually around last place) but right at the end you put me under some considerable pressure with that late surge- I had to balance playing safe being in the lead with making a steady chessbuck increase to maximise likelihood of winning which was tricky.

You did a strong finish and it was the first time in about 2 months I was in such a small lead but right at the end!

Penguincw: Thanks all for a great leg! A few shoutouts:
- Congrats to <TIMER> for winning the leg, and also to <Touch the Knight> for providing <TIMER> good competition.

- Congrats to <Switch> for qualifying in one go, and also to <dakgootje> for qualifying 3 times (Winter, Summer and Fall).

- Congrats to <Kynas> for pulling away from the rest of the contenders with a last minute run (grr).

- Congrats to <Sneaky>, who I swear was playing (Chessgames Bookie chessforum), but seems to have disappeared from the standings.

- Congrats to all the other qualifiers, in which I did not have anything special to say. :)

- And of course, this leg wouldn't be possible without the contributions of <wordfunph>. Once again, you were amazing.

In case anyone wants to see the full final standings, and <cg> doesn't archive it, just view a link such as http://web.archive.org/web/20141228... (or any similar).

Good luck to all in the Championship leg!

Speaking of the Championship leg, I count 27 qualifiers (could be wrong) for this championship, even though there were only 3 legs. The second smallest championship to date was the first one, where there were also 3 legs, but 28 users, and no extra qualifiers. Say, would it hurt to squeeze in 2 more runner-ups from this leg?

Just kidding, even if I did have 10K, I probably wouldn't put it to good use. However, during this Championship leg, I'm going to do a test: I'm going to wager the minimum bet on every single outcome, and see if I end up with above 1K, or below 1K (or perhaps back where I started). Any predictions (I'm predicting above)?

One last note, how would Pay Day work out?
