Jun-05-15  centralfiles: Can we have another one of those most common result bets?
Jun-05-15  MarkFinan: Think I just won about 600 on the 20draws and under ticket, Fiddy. I've won about 13-1400 in all today, I'm just plodding along nicely after a dip in my usual brilliant form. As us regular top tenners know, it's all about peaks and valleys. Lol, god knows how I'm doing this I haven't exactly gone form book, previous meetings, percentage of likelihood etc etc etc WTR style crazy in my cb studies, lol
Jun-05-15  MarkFinan: And provided Wally the T hasn't had a good day I've also overtaken him. I'm just cruising in 4th waiting for the jump to lightspeed before I beat 99% of the competitors, I predict no lower than a 5th placed loser showing, lol.

Sneaky: <Iasi rd 7: MOST COMMON RESULT : White win [cash in ticket] 399 YOU WIN! COLLECT 1163>

Ahhhh, everybody thought the draw was the guaranteed winner. Not so easy though, is it?

Jun-07-15  centralfiles: Maybe we can have an even/odd number of draws bet?
Jun-07-15  centralfiles: a few such bets (i.e. odd number of draws or even)on the same day would be fantastic.

Chessgames Bookie: <centralfiles> With this many games, that sounds a bit too much like betting on a coin flip. It might not be completely 50/50, but there wouldn't be much of a skill factor involved.
Jun-08-15  centralfiles: Your right but I like coin flips when they're about 50/50

Here's one for you-
what are the chances of an odd number of white wins in boards 1-20.

assuming for this exercise that white/black/draw all have the same chances on any individual game.

1.let's refer to the possibilities (white/black/draw) as A B and C where it's inconsequential which refers to which.

2.we know that one(A) of the three (white/black/draw) will be even given that there is an even amount of boards in sample.

3.assuming any even amount for A(e.g. 0-2-4-6 etc.) the rest of the boards will have a 50% chance of either both B and C being odd or both being even.

4.So the odds for any particular choice (i.e. white) having an odd number is only 1/3!

Nice try, but it's essentially 50/50.

Jun-08-15  centralfiles: Hey the point is to be able to explain where I went wrong...

Chessgames Bookie: That would be step 3:

<3.assuming any even amount for A(e.g. 0-2-4-6 etc.) the rest of the boards will have a 50% chance of either both B and C being odd or both being even.>

There's no reason why both of those should have a 50% chance. (Indeed, the probability that both B and C are odd approaches 75% very rapidly as the number of games increases.)

But let's try to keep all discussion here relevant to the Bookie game.

You can see my wagers so you know there's no skill involved whatsoever, lol. And I agree with you.. Betting on an odd number between 1-20 is 50/50, but betting on the amount of White wins in 10 (or 20) games would be a decent wager...

I can then put my skills to work, lol.

Sneaky: I don't like odd/even bets. There's absolutely no skill involved. We might as well be playing roulette if we go down that road.

If I want a double-my-money proposition I'd much rather do the over/under on a game.

Jun-08-15  centralfiles: The problem sneaky is that even under/over bets are not reliably bet up to parity so it's risky to just drop 1000 cbs and hope to double. I'm trying to find bets that are so clearly 50/50 to run little such risk.

Penguincw: Hmm, it looks this forum is rather really busy or really <not> busy.

Anyway, my strategy is working again! Unfortunately, it's bound to fail anytime soon again. :(

I'm within striking distance of the leaderboard, with 3 (or perhaps 4) major tournaments to go. Not sure what to do. :|

Jun-12-15  centralfiles: Lost about 500 today my first down day since June 3 when I went all the way down to 843 cbs :) Let's see how long it will be until I crash again...
Jun-13-15  greed and death: Just out of curiosity, are there going to be bets on the Capablanca Memorial, Norway, or both?
Jun-13-15

Chessgames Bookie: <greed and death> Norway will be the main tournament of the next two weeks, but there'll also be some betting on the Capablanca Memorial, especially round 1 if the pairings go up early enough.

Penguincw: Why did I jinx it? I went 0/5 today, and a drop of 91. :(
Jun-13-15  greed and death: OK, bookie, thanks for the answer. :)
Jun-14-15  MarkFinan: Well I won 22 cb's today! Wes So is becoming a fine chess player, I only put big money on So and Carlsen because they're the most consistent imo. Pity I lost a few other bets but I'm getting a bit nervous now because I don't think 6200 cb's is going to be enough to get in the top ten. Everybody, especially those of you who posted above, have stepped their game up. Good luck everyone.
Jun-14-15  greed and death: So last leg I was one of the top players that didn't start with 10K chessbucks, and now this leg...

It's okay, there's always next leg! But if you still want to qualify, ask <centralfiles> for advice. In the Summer Leg, <cf> lost 13.5 K, but then won over 6.5K back in about a week. :|

Jun-14-15  MarkFinan: <Penguincw: < MarkFinan: Well I won 22 cb's today! > Me too, I won 19 cbs today... >

I think someone had 1000 on So today. I looked at the odds table yesterday and there was something like 695 cb's on So to win. I got distracted for 15 mins and when I came back to bet there was 1695 on So to win. I won 3300 cb's last week, I thought I was out of the running after putting 5k on one round of betting, but then I hit the jackpot with a 30 cb wager at nearly 40/1. I'm not going to be putting massive amounts on now, I'll just put 500 or less on each round from now until the end of the leg.

Jun-14-15  WinKing: Coming up the 3rd Norway Chess 2015 Tournament - http://2015.norwaychess.com/superto...
