 | | Penguincw: Uh, <cg>, I think what <Mark> (and me too, kinda) is asking is why do some people get to qualify over and over again. <Switch> said his points, but I just wanna here what you have to say. |
|
| Jul-19-15 | | MarkFinan: I'll bet you get a nicer explanation than the one I just got, Pengerz. |
|
Jul-20-15
 | | chessgames.com: Mark, I'm sorry if I sounded curt. I did read your entire post, I chose just to respond to part of it. As to <why do some people get to qualify over and over again> — The short answer is, because the rules allow for that. In more detail:
The idea has been discussed more than once, that the ones who already qualified be not-counted, so that every season a guaranteed 10 new qualifiers are added. If they happen to be places 11-20, so be it. It's not a horrible idea, but there's something honorable about the requirement to show up in the top-10. If you want to play with the big boys in the championship, you have to prove that you can at least finish among the big boys in one of the other legs. Plus, it's so much simpler to explain this way. You qualify by being in the top-10. Nothing more to be said. |

| Jul-20-15 | | MarkFinan: <Entering Biel, there are 2 sets of players that are within 2 rating points of each other. They are
<<1. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (2731) - Radoslaw Wojtaszek (2671)>>>
2. David Navara (2724) - Pavel Eljanov (2723)>> I'm not complaining I'm just confused. Wotsit only has (only! Lol) 2671 rating points and isn't within 50 points of either of the other 3. |

Did I mention I have like, the worst proofreading skills ever? :p |

| Jul-20-15 | | MarkFinan: I didn't know what you meant Pengerz but it doesn't matter. It's a great great day either way, but I honestly didn't understand. I went all in yesterday and today... I want to win a leg so badly, lol. |

I want to win a leg so badly, lol. > Yeah, that's basically one problem I have this leg. I have a lot of ideas on what bets should be on, but they can be really hard to explain. However, I usually have difficulty explaining words/terms efficiently as well... Psst. I've put up a bet that should be a no-brainer.
Biel Chess Festival Rd 2: Volstok Station
Hopefully the players there don't have fighting spirit... |

Jul-20-15
 | | Penguincw: And giant leap wins! To be honest, I was tallying up the results, and couldn't find a consistent number, but "Giant Leap" emerged victorious all 3 times. FTR: Which one is the right one (Small Step:Giant Leap)? 20-24, 21-23, 20-21
I think it's the first one (chess24, 2700chess, chessdom) (okay, I'll get my act together)
In other news, I see Biel Chess Festival: Double Header probably won't end pretty. For that bet, if no one hits the winner, I guess I'll payoff lines where one of the winner is hit (ex. if Tie-Tie occurs, I'll payoff Tie-Eljanov and Tie-Navara), but if it's Wojtaszek-Tie, the Bookie keeps all the dough. :) I probably should've given it more time instead of putting it out there with just hours to go. :| |

| Jul-20-15 | | MarkFinan: How can a ninja go all in TWO days on the bouce, with about 30 different wagers a day, and STILL end up with what he started with??? Lol. It's still been a good day. |
|
| Jul-21-15 | | MarkFinan: Make that 3. I already put 150 on the Other ticket today before realising that if he played the opening d4 the e4 ticket would pay!? I had to then put 150 on the e4 ticket, which paid. |
|
Jul-21-15
 | | Penguincw: Yeah, the reason why I combined 1.e4 and 1.d4 was because I know Rapport is known for his crazy choice of opening moves (kinda like Jobava). I remember trying to figure out Rapport's moves during <wordfunph>'s trial (or was it <Switch>'s first one). The struggle was real... Anyway, I find Rapport bets interesting. It's hard to know if he's going to play "normal" or "surprising" moves. For example, today he opened up 1.e4, and then played the King's Gambit. :o |
|
| Jul-22-15 | | MarkFinan: Just looking at the games on chess24 now, and if they end like they look like they're ending I'm about to join Switch. C'mon 🙋 |

Nice! You currently lead the leaderboard among non-World Champions. ;) < IF I'd put 50 on I'd have beaten the record! > Say, what <is> the record for a 50 cbs ticket? Keep in mind that if you bet 50 cbs, you would've won about 1684 cbs (keep in mind the odds). |

 | | FSR: What a day! My first day playing in this leg, and I go from 1,000 to 1,767! |
|
Jul-23-15
 | | Penguincw: <FSR> Congrats! You should've joined earlier. ;) <In other news>: Folks, just a reminder that I'm going to be busy for much of tomorrow (Friday). It shouldn't be as long as that last Tuesday, but you never know. I've already put out all the R6 bets. Thanks for your patience, and sorry for any inconvenience. |
|
| Jul-24-15 | | MarkFinan: Well done Frederick.
Well I hit the refund big time today, lol. No worries, I rushed the bets I'll be back. |
|
Jul-25-15
 | | Chessgames Bookie: Just a quick update.
Tomorrow's a Rest Day at Biel. I was going to make it a Rest Day for the ChessBookie game as well, but changed my mind. I have all the R7 bets ready to go, but also will include Live Betting and some rounds of the Politiken Cup. If there's enough interest, I'll keep it for Biel. However, if there's not much interest (or people simply want to just focus on Biel bets), then I'll hold them off until after the tournament. - Penguin |

Jul-25-15
 | | Penguincw: Black-Black-Black came close to winning P3 today. Has that ever happened before? Also, the leg is about 2 weeks old now, so something like "The Summer Leg is now underway" is kinda inappropriate. What should I put for the announcement instead? |
|
Jul-25-15
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <Penguincw> Black-Black-Black has won a couple times. As for the announcement, use your imagination. Generic announcements I used when nothing special was happening were: • Welcome to the Summer Leg of the ChessBookie Game, and good luck! New players can find the rules and tips on how to play at the <a target="bookiehelp" href="http://www.chessgames.com/perl/bookie?help=1">ChessBookie Help Page</a>. • Welcome to the 2015 ChessBookie Summer Leg, and good luck! New players can find the rules and tips on how to play at the <a target="bookiehelp" href="http://www.chessgames.com/perl/bookie?help=1">ChessBookie Help Page</a>. • Good luck everybody, and have fun!
But you can probably think of something better, which I and other Bookies can then shamelessly copy :) -- Of course, with No Exotics Day (now with exotics!) coming tomorrow, you could advertise that :-) |
|
Jul-25-15
 | | Penguincw: < Of course, with No Exotics Day (now with exotics!) coming tomorrow, you could advertise that :-) > I was going to make tomorrow "No Exotics Day", but tomorrow's a Rest Day at Biel. I was also going to make tomorrow a Rest Day, but put up Politiken Cup bets. I'm going to keep all bets open, and have "No Exotics" Day for R8 or R9. However, I'm going to have to make up an occasion... |
|
| Jul-26-15 | | sydbarrett: I failed to realize that all 11 boards in Politiken Cup are GMs vs 1900-rated chumps before plunking down big money on "NO" in the "Upset Special"... lol
Oh well, there probably goes 100, thrown away on a bad bet. |
|
| Jul-26-15 | | sydbarrett: But I think I just won big TWICE on two bets in "Double Opening Move"...! $50 on 1.d4 x 8.62= $430 win
$5 on 1.c4 x 111.40=$557 win
I don't care if it's fake money but goddam if I didn't feel a rush anticipating the first moves live, lol! Around 80% of the money was put on 1.e4 and it totally lost! Those two bets should make up for my $100 "Upset Special" goof which I doubt I will win. I only started Chessbookie about a week ago and I haven't been this enraptured by a game of chance since I last played rotisserie baseball. I need to bring myself to a casino for some fun I think, ha ha
Thanks chessbookie for helping me discover the compulsive gambler in me |

Well you're in for some surprises (both good and bad). < I failed to realize that all 11 boards in Politiken Cup are GMs vs 1900-rated chumps before plunking down big money on "NO" in the "Upset Special"... lol Oh well, there probably goes 100, thrown away on a bad bet. > Looks to me that Shankland didn't win his R2 game, so "NO" will pay. < But I think I just won big TWICE on two bets in "Double Opening Move"...! $50 on 1.d4 x 8.62= $430 win $5 on 1.c4 x 111.40=$557 win > Congrats on that, but please note that you would've won 987 cbs, which is more than the actual bet (586). In cases where there is more than winner in a bet, the winnings are split, so you actually get less money than the odds posted. If my calculations are correct, that's only about 238 and 250 cbs won. Still a lot though. < I only started Chessbookie about a week ago and I haven't been this enraptured by a game of chance since I last played rotisserie baseball. I need to bring myself to a casino for some fun I think, ha ha Thanks chessbookie for helping me discover the compulsive gambler in me > You're welcome, glad you're enjoying it. :)
On a side note, I think I should hold off Politiken Cup bets until after Biel. Thanks all for your interest, and "bailing" me out whenever I made a mistake (ex. placing a bet that's not interesting with hardly enough time). Really means a lot. :) |
