| Aug-18-15 | | MarkFinan: Hahaha.. You might know more about the openings Fred, but when it comes to the <knowledge> of the royal game I have very few equals, lol. Only joking, and keep away from razor blades, paracetamol, and tall buildings. I'm doing "The winning dance" around my living room right now. I'd teach you but I doubt you'll be dancing to the same beat as me so no point, lol. |
|
| Aug-18-15 | | MarkFinan: <I'm doing "The winning dance" around my living room right now> Just in case you ever need to know how the money dance goes Fred, it's easy and I can imagine you doing it. You just kinda waltz across the room with no companion, no arms moving, just shaking what your moms gave you, like Elvis Presley or something, lol. It's my first chance to gloat thus far, have patience. |

 | | Penguincw: For Leko - Li Chao Match Rd 5: Li Chao - Leko, 1...c5 is the winner. However, I did not expect to see Li Chao play 1.c4. My idea of the bet was that Li Chao would play 1.e4, and Leko reply with rather 1...e5 or 1...c5 (mostly likely). I got the last part right. :p |
|
Aug-19-15
 | | FSR: Li Chao usually plays 1.e4, but he's never done so in his four games as White against Leko. |
|
| Aug-19-15 | | WinKing: You have Svidler playing two opponents in RD.11.
<Russian Superfinal Rd 11
Jakovenko - Svidler
Russian Superfinal Rd 11
Tomashevsky - Svidler>
Should be Jakovenko-Karjakin. |

 | | Chessgames Bookie: Ooh shoot. Thanks. It's been a while since my last error. Now normally I can tell how/why I made an error, but I'm not sure what happened here, especially considering I got the info box right. :| There's only one bet on it (and it was 100 on the draw), so the bet will stand, of course. Thanks. :)

Aug-19-15
 | | WannaBe: <Bookie> It's not my bet, but in my opinion, Jako-Svidler is very different from Jako-Karj. Better to refund that bet, and start a-new. Just my opinion... |
|
| Aug-19-15 | | MarkFinan: Well I've just lost another 100 on the Leko match. I've already qualified and I'm in a good position already, so to make it more interesting for myself I'm going all in on tomorrow's games, all 3700 and 2500 I'll borrow from the bookie. I'll end up with <something> to try hustle my way back up with, no matter what happens. |
|
Aug-19-15
 | | Chessgames Bookie: <WannaBe>
I would like this bet to be refunded as well, but there's a rule that states against that: < Every effort will be made to ensure that all information available on the Internet site is accurate, however this information is only provided as a courtesy. The player is solely liable to ascertain the correct information for all events. This includes the start time for the games, which players are participating, time controls, coloration, tournament format, and other conditions. > So basically it's the bettor's "fault".
But I do want to refund the bet. Only one bet was placed. <If I refund that bet, I fear that the user placing the bet perhaps missed the fact that it's misleading information.> :| Now I have veto power in this decision, but I'm open for suggestions. What I'm planning to do is firstly close that bet. I'm going to open up a new bet like that, and betting will be placed like normal (fair enough). Regarding the bet with 100 cbs, I will fork over some of my cbs to try to match those odds as closely as I can as the real bet. If the game is not drawn, they lose money anyway. If they win, they gain money anyway. I don't really want to have to go at <cg> and find out who it is. - Penguin |
|
| Aug-19-15 | | MarkFinan: I was the guy who placed the bet, and I saw the mistake immediately. If I did?? |
|
Aug-19-15
 | | Annie K.: <Penguin> you can refund a bet, it's one of your options (in the payoff etc. drop-down menu), you don't have to know who placed it, or go to <cg> with that sort of thing. :) Just refund all lines (whether they are empty or not), and the program considers the bet cancelled. |
|
Aug-19-15
 | | Penguincw: But the problem is that what if I refund the bet, and the game ends up being drawn, and some person comes up to me saying: "Hey, I swear I placed 100 cbs on the draw. What happened?" So many decisions. I seem to be the only person who can make a seemingly harmless decision/mistake result in unprecedented situations. :| |
|
Aug-19-15
 | | Annie K.: <Penguin: <and the game ends up being drawn>> Um, which game? Jakovenko - Svidler doesn't exist, remember. So by whose draw or not-draw would you be going by? Jakovenko's draw/not with Karjakin, or Svidler's draw/not with Tomashevsky? The whole premise doesn't make sense. Just refund the bet. That rule exists to protect you, not to oblige you. :) |
|
Aug-19-15
 | | FSR: You could cancel it and put up an "ANNOUNCEMENT" that you'd done so. That would increase the chance that the person who placed the bet would see it. I doubt that in any event the person would complain, since he/she really was betting on a different game than the actual game. |
|
Aug-19-15
 | | Penguincw: < ...since he really was betting on a different game than the actual game. > Alright <FSR>, that part convinced me to do refund the bet (not that I didn't already want to do it). I'll refund the bet now. Thanks guys. :) |

Aug-20-15
 | | Penguincw: I see the Russians don't quite like playing their opening (similar to the French). Seriously, has there even been a Russian Opening this tournament? :p |
|
Aug-20-15
 | | FSR: There was not a single Russian Game in either the Men's or Women's tournaments. Traitors. The French was played multiple times in both the French Men's and Women's Championships. The English Opening was played many times at the British Championship. (However, the English Defence and the Scotch Game were not.) |
|
Aug-20-15
 | | FSR: Lysyj beat Artemiev (1-0). The other five games were all drawn. |
|
Aug-20-15
 | | FSR: You haven't paid out yet on RUSSIAN SUPERFINAL - WINNER. |
|
Aug-20-15
 | | Penguincw: I always forget to pay out the "WINNER" bet. :p Prepare for the same to happen during the Sinquefield and World Cups! |
|
| Aug-20-15 | | MarkFinan: Will you please check my account because a 100 cb's have vanished? I had say... 3650 (roughly) last night, and I woke up to 100 cb's less even though you refunded that wager. |
|
Aug-20-15
 | | chessgames.com: <MarkFinan> I'll look into it. When you say 100 went missing do you mean the cash on hand or your net worth? Net worth can be confusing because it includes the face value of tickets that haven't been settled yet. |
|
Aug-20-15
 | | FSR: Sic transit gloria, Mark.
<(6) FSR 3,429
(7) MarkFinan 3,426> |
|
| Aug-20-15 | | MarkFinan: Ceegee.. I mean my net worth. And there wasn't any other bets pay out overnight, the winner of the tournament ticket wasn't paid up until this afternoon. Frederick. Bathe in your 3 cb's glory for I shall return stronger, lol. |

Aug-20-15
 | | Chessgames Bookie: Ugh, more problems.
Important notice regarding Ragger vs. Mamedyarov Rd 5: Mamedyarov - Ragger. It seems to be the case that R4 is being pushed to Friday, thereby pushing R5 to Saturday. For now, I'm going to leave the bet's closing time as is (Currently Aug-21-2015 10:56:44 <cg> time). If I see R5 will not be played until Saturday, then I'll reopen the bet. In the meantime, since many of you don't want tomorrow to be a Rest Day, I'll put up a R4 bet. If I find out that the game was already playing in secret and the result is already known, I'll refund all bets. Also, if I see the pool is too small, I'll fork over some of my own money. TL;DR: I will push Round 5's closing date later. In the meantime, I'm going to open up a bet for Round 4. - Penguin |
