 | | Penguincw: Done! All bets paid off, please wait a few minutes for the leaderboard to be updated. It should catch all the bets. I will now compose my speech. :D |
|
Oct-05-15
 | | Annie K.: <Penguin> Heh... I bet it felt lately like your shift was never going to end... so congrats, you can hand the reins back and rest on some comfy laurels for a while now! ;) |
|
Oct-05-15
 | | WannaBe: <Penguincw> With the vig money, you gonna buy us all a (round) drink? |
|
| Oct-05-15 | | sydbarrett: Will there be anything to bet on this week? How long do I have to wait before I can bet on something again? |
|
| Oct-05-15 | | MarkFinan: Wow! Syd-B so close.. Well done Fred and pitapino and everyone else that qualified. And thank you Pengerz.. I know I can be a moaning pain in the ass but you did a great job. When does the next leg start? |
|
| Oct-05-15 | | Golden Executive: You did a terrific job during the whole leg <Penguin>. Running this game is a highly demanding task on a day-by-day basis for about 3 months. Thanks for that and congratulations to the top-ten winners. |
|
| Oct-05-15 | | wordfunph: hats off to mate <Penguincw> for the show - no doubt, he's definitely the best masterbookie in the history of CG! congratulations to all the winners and gracias to the man behind the scene of chessgames.com - Mr. Daniel Freeman! <Switch> cheers for another smashing championship crown! |

 | | chessgames.com: Great work penguin, you were excellent. I don't see any problems in the logs, let me double check and post the official winners. Clearly SwitchingQ has come out on top again, so congratulations to him for once more proving his skill at this game. The new leg will start in a few days. |
|
Oct-05-15
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: Thanks to <Penguincw> for his hard work (and patience), and congratulations to the other qualifiers! <sydbarrett> had an excellent Bookie debut and kept things entertaining to the very end. I feel for <Chnebelgrind>, who had excellent chances to win this leg and ended up 269th... I was just luckier than he was, but that's payback for you :) Good luck for the next leg everybody, and have fun! |
|
| Oct-05-15 | | sydbarrett: Thx for the kind words, Santa.
I agree that Penguin is awesome, and I don't say that as empty praise. I hope the next leg starts soon so I can continue my desire to humiliate and destroy others. I will be more silent and more deadly and I can't wait |
|
| Oct-05-15 | | sydbarrett: I don't mean all others. Just the bad people I see |
|
| Oct-05-15 | | pitapino: Thanks <Mark> :)
I put 1100+ on Svidler last night trying to sneak in both ways. When I placed the bet he was at 3.39, had I known he would drop to 2.33!? eh.. My dream was 6,7 and 5,0 but that 5,0 dropped to 4,1 overnight and it definitely wasn't gonna be top 10 or probably even top 20. I can't believe Svidler went even lower than the 2.45 from the first bet!? I thought Sergey was known as one of the elite blitzers. <Old bookie/New bookie> Is it possible I could play the January leg with the 10k bonus under a new name? The site can id me thru my email or my computer id or whatever. I'm tired of this handle I have a list of new ones. :) <Penguin> I thought Naka and Nepo went to Armageddon. Sorry if I'm wrong. |

 | | FSR: <Penguincw> Thanks for a great job! Congratulations to <SwitchingQuylthulg> on yet another win, and congratulations to the other qualifiers! |
|
Oct-05-15
 | | Annie K.: <pitapino: <<Old bookie/New bookie> ...>> Neither. That's a question you'd have to ask Daniel. I'm sure he will be delighted to hear all about your new handles! ;p |
|
Oct-05-15
 | | FSR: But I do wish the Bookie had had a bet on whether all ten games would be decisive! :-) What are the odds of that?! |
|
| Oct-05-15 | | WinKing: Nice job 'Book'(<Penguincw>) running this leg! Congrats to the winner <Switch> & all those that qualified! |
|
Oct-05-15
 | | chessgames.com: <pitapino> If you would like to change accounts, go ahead, and I will make a note by your new account that you are a qualified for the championship round. Just be sure to sign-out of the pitapino account on all devices you may use, to avoid accidentally making a bet from the wrong account. |

 | | Penguincw: Wow that was quick.
Thanks all for the nice comments (I'm reading them all). Now here's my bookie speech (not sure what to write): Woo! This leg is finished. I have to say though, this leg is probably one for the ages. Firstly, every single day had at least one kibitz on this forum, which is impressive. Like <Annie> guessed, at first the leg went by really slowly, but as the leg winded down, time flew by quickly. I predicted that it would happen, and it did. To be honest though, I'm not sure if I ever lost motivation, or just lost motivation because it wasn't really compatible with my schedule (which will continue to get busy). I was hoping I would learn to better understand how this game works, but I feel like I'm still going to be the same bettor entering the leg. :p Looking ahead, I will be looking forward to playing for the first time in 3 months. I'm not sure if I will take the role of admin again. I know that you people are all understanding and all, but I feel like it's not something I can make enough time of, so I likely won't be hosting another leg, at least anytime soon. |
|
| Oct-05-15 | | HowDoesTheHorsieMove: I didn't expect to qualify, but I knew it was just possible. In tenth by 13 chessbucks, whew! |
|
| Oct-05-15 | | pitapino: <Annie K.> haha You made me laugh and I can't stop. I do deserve that don't I :):):) <chessgames.com> Thank you sir. I will deep six this loser shortly and continue on my newfound quest to litter the bookie game Hall of Fame with more of my ridiculous handles. Thank you. |

 | | Penguincw: And here are my first comments about the leg itself. Firstly, a comparison:
Summer 2014 (<SwitchingQuylthulg>) Total Wager: 1,989,905
# of events: 572
Juice: 61,078
Fall 2014 (<wordfunph>) Total Wager: 2,337,246
# of events: 407
Juice: 76,059
Championship 2014 (<Annie K.>) Total Wager: 2,143,675
# of events: 583
Juice: 63,516
Spring 2015 (<SwitchingQuylthulg>) Total Wager: 2,248,171
# of events: 668
Juice: 68,782
Summer 2015 (<Penguincw>) Total Wager: 1,891,809
# of events: 557
# of bets: 18,430
Juice: 55,057
Damn, it's already been a year. But wow, I actually placed out the <2nd least> amount of bets. I thought I was first by a mile! But anyway, congrats to <Switch> for winning, again (I'm getting tired of saying that). Congrats to <syd> for fighting well, and finishing 2nd in an amount that would normally be enough to win a leg, except that <Switch> set a record for most cbs in a non-Championship leg. (wow, so many good and bad records set this season). However, <syd>'s consolation prize is that he finished ahead of 4th place <FSR>, but his consolation prize is that he finishes miles ahead of <Mark>. <Mark>'s consolation prize, well, he's already qualified. Thanks to those 3 for the interesting war, and looking forward to see you three battle it out in the future. But if I may offer some advice, work together, not against each other, if you people want to beat the dictator known as Santa Claus. He lies at the top of the world and the standings... Last congrats goes out to <HowDoesTheHorsieMove> for making the cut by just 13 cbs! I don't think it's a record in terms of closest ever finish, but with a profit of just 2022 cbs, that is the 2nd lowest, <ever>. Damn, so many records. Okay, does that just blow your mind? The same leg has the highest ever 1st place finish, and the 2nd lowest ever 10th place finish (lowest in the Pay Day era). I think I've said enough, for now...

|
| Oct-06-15 | | greed and death: After being in the bottom 5 of the leaderboard at the start of this leg, I turned things around and ended 16th (a new personal best). Hopefully I can do better and qualify next leg. ;) |
|
Oct-06-15
 | | FSR: As you'll recall, I was actually at the top of the leaderboard for a little while. But I see now that to have a chance to <win> a leg, as opposed to just attaining a respectable ranking, one has to take huge risks. If you guess right, you end up at the top, as <Switch> and <syd> did. If you guess wrong, you wind up in the cellar, as <Chnebelgrind> did this time around. |
|
| Oct-06-15 | | sydbarrett: Were you #1 for 9 seconds? I'm not trying to be mean, but I don't remember that ever being the case at all O_o To attain a respectable ranking, you have to make smart bets that won't bankrupt you and that also have a good chance of making you money. It's only during the last 2-3 days when it's okay to bet it all for the sake of glory. Come on I've only played this game for 3 months and I already know this. How come you don't... |
