| Mar-14-19 | | wordfunph: another one..
<Feb-15-19 Premium Chessgames Member Chessgames Bookie: <Dr Winston OBoogie: Is this the last round of the championship leg?>No <DWOB>. We still have 3 tournaments to go before the Chmp. Leg is over. This is only the last round of the Cairns Cup tournament. Still to come:
Aeroflot Open (Feb. 19th-27th)
Prague Chess Festival 2019 - Master Tournament (March 6th-16th)
The USA Championship 2019 (March 20th-April 1st)> oh ohhhh... |
|
| Mar-14-19 | | morfishine: I admire <Dr Winston OBoogie>'s pro active move to add another tournament If it had been a quarterly tournament, I'd say ok, but this is the championship leg for crying out loud |

 | | Chessgames Bookie: Tomorrow, Friday March 15th, is the final 9th round of the Prague Masters tournament. |
|
| Mar-15-19 | | Count Wedgemore: <Chessgames Bookie: U.S. Chess Championship 2019 (St. Louis, MO USA)--This will be the tournament we close the Bookie Championship Leg (2019) with.> Not long ago, I commended the bookie for doing such a great job. Well, I take it back.
Changing the rules in the middle of the game, not a good thing. The decision to add another tournament changes the whole dynamic. And it is especially unfair to the current leader, <moronovich>. He has a good lead, +7000 chessbucks down to no.2. Believing there was only one tournament left after Prague, it has naturally influenced his decision-making and overall strategy for the current tournament. Now, if <moro> had already known beforehand that there was two big tournaments left, not just one, he might have played less defensively in recent weeks, etc. But he, like the rest of us, was misled. If we, the players, can't trust the announcements that are made, then what is the point? And as <morfishine> just pointed out, this is the Championship Leg, for crying out loud, which makes the current bookie's arbitrary handling of the chessbokie game even the more unacceptable. This is weak, really weak. Disappointing. I don't know when this year's Gashimov Memorial was announced, but surely it must have already been known for a long time that it would start March 30th. So there is no excuse, really. Yeah, it's just for fun, just a game and all that. But such random decision-making by those who organize the game, showing such disregard for the fairness of the game, takes away a lot of the fun, if you ask me. Finally, let me just say that in my opinion, the suggestion of putting up a 'Pick 4' during the US Championship is another bad idea. A 'Pick 4 Monster' could potentially leapfrog a player who is a bit down in the standings up to the very top, with one lucky bet. Of course, this can happen with any number of bets, but with a 'Pick 4', the chances of that happening increase significantly. There is already enough luck involved in this game, one of the things that makes this game so great is that it really is a healthy mix of luck and skill involved. But such monster bets would tip the balance towards luck too much, in my opinion. Pick 3 bets are great, Pick 4 is taking it too far. |

 | | Chessgames Bookie: Ok guys after a lot of though I will be pulling the Gashimov tournament off the board. I did announce several times that the U.S. Championship would be the last tournament. I tried putting myself in your places & I must admit I would not have been happy with another tournament being added either. <Count Wedgemore: I don't know when this year's Gashimov Memorial was announced, but surely it must have already been known for a long time that it would start March 30th. So there is no excuse, really.> Actually <Count> I believe it was added very late. March 11th from what I know. I don't know the reason why though, perhaps they were waiting for more players to fill the last couple of slots on the roster. I am not sure. |

 | | Chessgames Bookie: Gashimov has been pulled from the line-up. If <chessgames> still wants to add Gashimov they will have to fire me & do it themselves. |
