Jan-21-20  sydbarrett: I have to admit, I understand if Chessgames Bookie gets cancelled. Not much betting being done lately. I'm kinda busy myself, and I suspect others are too.
Jan-22-20  wordfunph: <Chnebelgrind: Hi <wordfunph>. As your mentor, I am proud that you are so successful. But in the upcoming bets I will test whether your skills are sustainable!>

Bookie GM <Chnebelgrind>, hope i pass your test. Goodluck Master!

He is definitely within striking distance though.

Had someone slapped down 3 cbs, and won the jackpot of 17K, if that user's net worth was previously in the 4 digits, it might be enough to win the leg. If they had 10K, 27K almost certainly will win the leg.

Anyone would be in 1st with that bet alone.

Someone did bet on Kovalev, but he has been mathematically eliminated from winning already.

Jan-23-20  morfishine: Good news, the number of players has gone up from 50 to 64, so now is the time for sock puppets to reach the necessary 100

Annie K.: So far only one pair detected, and I suspect it was just an accident (probably forgot which sock he was wearing...). Nevertheless, it wouldn't be a very good idea to try this again.

Hmm, to clarify, <IF> somebody is willing to take the daily work off my hands, I don't care how many players there are; this will only be the deciding factor if nobody steps up to the plate. :)

Jan-23-20  wordfunph: <willing to take the daily work off my hands>

<Annie K.> i once experienced being a bookie and i knew how demanding being one.

maybe when i retire I can be a bookie again.

my salute and thanks!

regards from Laguna Philippines..

Annie K.: Turns out betting on Caruana and Anand to win today were good ideas... ;)

<wordfunph> actually, the Bookie job is easier these days than it was at the time you took a turn. For one thing, the closing and payoff times boxes are now filled in to <tomorrow's> date by default (since the vast majority of bets are set up one day in advance), so in most cases all you have to change there is the closing time hour. And for another, the "daily" management now is not really "daily" like it was then; it's only daily <during the major events> that we cover. That's a big difference. :)

Besides, I have a full time job too, <plus> the entire management of cg to run, with the Bookie being just the one task that is getting to be the "one too many". :/

Oh, and one more thing: the Bookie(s) would be allowed to play during the legs they run. I really don't think cheating would be an issue (but I'll watch out for it anyway, at least during the end-of-leg log checking...) ;)

Jan-24-20  morfishine: I still don't know how one cheats at this game
Jan-25-20  morfishine: Yippee, I hit the Caruana to win and pocketed 1,528 Chess bucks, which was enough to payoff the bookie

barely

LOL

Jan-27-20  morfishine: No Bets for Gibraltar 1-28?

I don't see any rest days so there must be something to bet on

Annie K.: Yes. You can bet on whether or not they intend to publish the pairings any time soon.
Jan-28-20  morfishine: <Annie K.> Oh, I understand now, thnx
Jan-28-20  mike1: Mame forfeit his game against P.R
(pick 3- game 1)..... does this effect
the betting?

Diademas: <mike1: Mame forfeit his game against P.R (pick 3- game 1)..... does this effect
the betting?>

From the ChessBookie Game Help Page.

<Wagers on a player who cancels prior to the event, or withdraws for unforseen circumstances, are graded as "No Action" and all chessbucks on that player shall be refunded. Wagers on players who forfeit shall be considered losses and no refunds issued.>

Jan-28-20  Count Wedgemore: <Diademas> I was curious what the rules were. Thanks for finding this out. So no refunds then.
Jan-28-20  WinKing: On the Gibraltar's Round 8, Pick 3 bet, the game between Praggnanandhaa - Mamedyarov was forfeited by Mamedyarov. I believe he became ill. Will bets be refunded for the Pick 3?
Jan-28-20  Count Wedgemore: <WinKing> The bet will not be refunded according to the bookie regulations. See <Diademas>' post above.
Jan-28-20  mike1: Thank you for the explanation, Diademas. Worked for me. But now the leaderboard does not show my funds ??!!
Jan-28-20  WinKing: I've got no problem with it. Didn't bet much on the P3 & I don't have any money on Mamedyarov.

Annie K.: Thanks for saving me some work on the explanations. Always appreciated. :)

Yes, this round's Pick-Three was a forfeit and counts as a loss to Mamedyarov, however if he doesn't return for the last rounds (and I see that at Chess-Results he already shows as "unpaired" for the remaining rounds) then that will count as withdrawal from the event, and his line in the Winner bet will be refunded before the bet is paid off. That will mean that the profits for the rest of the lines will be smaller than indicated by the current odds.
