 | | Annie K.: Thanks, <WinKing>. :) The qualifiers' list is rather short this year - this is due to the multiple qualifications, but it also reflects the overall drop in Bookie player numbers. Daniel always said that if the number of players falls below 100 per leg, he will shut the game down. Meanwhile I have continued to run the Bookie, despite participation having fallen under that cutoff line long ago, but frankly, I am pressed for time to do much more important work for cg, and I am starting to agree that with less than 100 players, this game represents an unreasonable drain on my time and energy. I don't mind planning the overall course of the leg (start and end dates, list of events covered), or even setting up event winner bets - the research for these is useful to me in any case, for other cg work, like learning when to open tournament pages for upcoming major events, and when we can offer live relays - but the day-to-day work of setting up and paying off daily bets during events is what I can't keep up doing much longer. I am still trying to find someone who can take over the daily management permanently. In any case, the game won't be discontinued mid-year; the Championship Leg will be held. But if the participation remains under 100 players (and please don't enter socks to boost the numbers, I will know, and you will be disqualified...), and I can't find a permanent daily-management Bookie (I don't have time to run around asking for volunteers after every leg either), unfortunately the game will be discontinued after the Championship ends. |

|
| Jan-11-20 | | sydbarrett: I'm thinking the odds of having more than 100 players is less than 50%. A world without Chessgames Bookie would be a sadder place. P.S. nice win Moro. |

<I am still trying to find someone who can take over the daily management permanently.>What if you find four people who volunteer to do a rotation with each doing one leg per year, permanently? Also, prospective volunteers would need a rough idea of the time commitment for this work. |

 | | Annie K.: <What if you find four people who volunteer to do a rotation with each doing one leg per year, permanently?> That would work too, sure. Or two, taking alternating legs. Whatever works. :) Just as long as it's understood that if one or more of them decide to suddenly pull out, I won't be taking over running their leg instead of them anymore - if nobody else steps up, the leg will be a hiatus, and maybe we'll add a couple more top finishers to the Championship Leg qualifiers that year (as in, qualify the top 12 instead of the top 10, for example). But if this happens too often, we may as well call the game off. <Also, prospective volunteers would need a rough idea of the time commitment for this work.> That is a variable, and an unclear one. A new Bookie will take much longer to complete a daily setups & payoffs task than an experienced one. Also, do you want to count the time it takes to hang around watching the end of the day's games in order to make prompt payoffs? Do you want to count the time it takes after the games end to wait for the next day's pairings to be published (in events that don't publish pairings all at once)? - Or just the time it takes to actually set the bets up and pay off the previous day? This last part takes me only a few minutes. The waiting times can be much longer. I *would* like a Bookie / Bookies who try to be around and make prompt setups and payoffs though, otherwise often the bets will end up with too little time left to pick up good pools. This would lead to small profits, and further loss of interest in the game. |

 | | Penguincw: Hmm, I made 7 wagers today totalling 108 cbs and I broke exactly even. ---
< wordfunph: ... where are my pursuers? > Excellent question. We're right ... there? ("there" as in we're all hidden on the leaderboard) |

| Jan-16-20 | | wordfunph: thanks bookie GM <moronovich>! still long way and Magnus could still recover. |
|
| Jan-16-20 | | wordfunph: <Penguincw: Hmm, I made 7 wagers today totalling 108 cbs and I broke exactly even.> i placed around 4,500 cbs and gained around 4,500 thanks to Firo winning vs Giri, Foreest drawing against Caruana, and Kovalev-So game. |
|
| Jan-16-20 | | wordfunph: <Penguincw: Excellent question. We're right ... there? ("there" as in we're all hidden on the leaderboard)> ahhh alright, hiding your precious cbs from me :) let's get it on, guys! |

 | | Chnebelgrind: Hi <wordfunph>. As your mentor, I am proud that you are so successful. But in the upcoming bets I will test whether your skills are sustainable! |
|
| Jan-20-20 | | WinKing: Mind games abound. I love it! ;) |
|
| Jan-20-20 | | morfishine: Notice, there's a large point discrepancy between 25th place <eternaloptimist> at 8,055 and 26th place <varishnakov> at 3,287. Thats a signal that if one wants to make a run at this leg (there's 2 more events in any case), one must place themself in the top 25 at some point or the other before making the final advance |
