Mar-27-20  morfishine: Dear <bookie> I understand refunding round 8, but the winners picks should remain standing

Annie K.: No, because we are not going to stretch the Championship Leg until September, or whenever they get around to resuming it, the halfway leaders are not "winners", and bets can't be transferred from one leg to another. So it gets cancelled and refunded.

The Championship Leg is now over. The logs have been checked, and the top 10 are clean. Congratulations to new Bookie Champion <sydbarrett> and the other 9 top finishers!

The leg will be officially wrapped up soon, and then we will open a training session "leg" for <jingohanson> who volunteered to run the Bookie, although the way things are looking, there isn't going to be anything worth covering anytime soon (and no, we are not covering TCEC events, although we may use them for the training leg).

But this is a good time to train a Bookie, or even several Bookies - so if anybody else wants to join up for training, please let me know. :)

Diademas: All Hail <sydbarrett> and the ChessBookie!

Great fun.
I kind of knew it would be cancelled when the only bet I had left started looking promising.

  moronovich: Congrats <sydbarrett> !

Well done !
I know you have been trying for a long time,so I could imagine it must be of great satisfaction.

Mar-27-20  sydbarrett: I was honestly hoping the leg would play out so I could win properly. My tournament final winner bets would have only won 2000 on either MVL or Nepo, and it was plausible to me that someone else would have won more on either leading player, meaning I would have possibly needed to extend my lead further to secure first place. My main "big jackpot" bet was someone else. I'll gladly take the crown for this year, but I'll be more satisfied when I duke it out and earn it outright next time.

The best news is that this game will continue on. Let's play till we are old or too senile to play. Cheers and a round for all.

Mar-27-20  sydbarrett: lol @ <<trying for a long time>>, I was only trying for a few years. I'm still mostly a rookie. Next year is when it really counts. :))

Annie K.: I had 500 on Nepo myself... Plus other tickets, but if Nepo won, that would have been about 3000 in profits all in all.

Which reminds me to repeat that any volunteer to run the Bookie will also be allowed to play. ;)

Mar-27-20  Count Wedgemore: I too was about to gain quite a bit on the Overall Winner bet. (Well, probably). I would have won app. 6,000 cbs if MVL had ended up the winner and around 4,000 if Nepo had won. So given these two guys were +2 after seven rounds I was very optimistic that I would win another chessbookie title, although I had a feeling that this tournament (which shouldn't have been played in the first place) would not run its course to the finish line.

Next year, my friends. I WILL WIN---BRING IT ON

Mar-28-20  morfishine: Darn, I had 300 CB's on Alekseenko to win that would've paid 37,000 chessbucks

That is not a typo

Congratulations <sydbarrett>! Long live Pink Floyd!

Annie K.: I actually considered adding a "Event Cancelled" line to the winner bet from the start, but then decided it would be too controversial. As it turned out, some people may have argued that the event wasn't exactly cancelled because it's planned to be continued and the results so far stand and will be counted when it resumes. It's best to avoid offering options that can spark interpretation arguments. ;s

<moronovich> Ah, that's right... well, he doesn't *have* a distinctive avatar so far. So maybe he'd like to pick one at this point, so we can use it instead? <sydbarrett>, the avatars are over here: Avatar Area ;)

Penguincw: Wow, top 10 in the Championship Leg. Never thought this day would happen to me. And good thing the leg was cut short, as the distance between me and 11th was quickly shrinking.
