| Sep-18-06 | | Touch of Knight: <soughzin> I did exactly the same with my 7407$ plus 4000$ loan. I knew I had to in order to stay ahead of you and others. Still I hope you will make it! |
| Sep-18-06 | | soughzin: Well I mean that at the very start of the leg there will be a huge ongoing betting event that will surely sap many accounts. (And shoot TrueBlue up to 90,000 of course) |
| Sep-18-06 | | Touch of Knight: <Chessgames Bookie> The playoff match for the Norwegian Championship between Agdestein and Carlsen begins tomorrow. Any chances that the autumn leg could start with that one? |

 | | lostemperor: <TrueBlue> no problema. I will hold it against you though if I don't make it to the top 10 hehehe. |
| Sep-18-06 | | RonB52734: I have painstakingly added up the net worth of the 431 players in the summer leg (it sez 432, but I only count 431), and I come up with a positive 401,180 chessbucks. In other words, we're taking chessbookie to the cleaners. Can anybody check my math? How does chessbookie take his cut? |

 | | WannaBe: Must be a slow day at the office for <RonB52734> =) |

 | | lostemperor: <chessgames.com> I do hope that people who already qualified, like TrueBlue, means that now 10 different people may qualify for the grand final in Januari. It's great that people keep playing but there is no need to qualify twice (at the expense of others). I hope this make sense :). |
| Sep-18-06 | | RonB52734: Actually, it was a simple c&p into Excel -- it worked beautifully. (No, <WannaBe>, I did not sit here like Bob Cratchit with a piece of coal tallying them by hand!) Everybody's a wise guy! :) |
| Sep-18-06 | | TrueBlue: lostemperor, I agree, if there is a final event, I will bet all on a losing horse :) |
| Sep-18-06 | | fersonatu: I didn't know the Bookie would loan money to players who aren't broke. Didn't he previously publicly refuse to loan to some player who still had ouotstanding tickets? My mistake. Guess I should have tried it. Perhaps my all-in will hold up anyway. |
| Sep-18-06 | | fersonatu: <RonB52734> Please note that if our net "worth" only adds to 401k spread over 431 players then we have lost 30k since each player started with 1k. Truth be told we have almost certainly lost far more than that. My guess is that there have been a bunch of accounts that were killed (perhaps for cheating here or in the GM game!?) after having lost the initial 1k stake and that is why it looks like the Bookie hasn't taken much of a cut. With 5% juice (I think that is his cut) and interest paid by those who have been in the red it seems impossible for him to have reclaimed <10% of the total net worth. |

| Sep-19-06 | | Youjoin: I finished 13th :-(

 | | Chessgames Bookie: Congratulations to User: you vs yourself for placing 1st in the Summer Leg. We added an extra year of premium membership to his account as a small reward. Also congratulations to TrueBlue, chessmind, Touch of Knight, Fredrik, Sneaky, fersonatu, Blue in Ohio, MatedStan, and soughzin. They have all qualified for the Championship Leg in winter and their names have been added to the ChessBookie Hall of Fame. A special mention must be made that TrueBlue, who came in 1st in the Spring Leg, placed 2nd this leg. Excellent work. It almost makes you think it's not just luck! The Fall Leg will be online later today, with Kramnik-Topalov bets and probably some others. There will be a new rule starting this leg which will make cheating much more difficult, and will add to the skill level of the game. There will be betting caps based on your net worth, so that it's impossible to just toss all of your money on one bet and hope to get lucky. The winners will be the one who can accumulate profit over a number of smaller bets. This will greatly change the nature of the game, hopefully for the better. By the way, the Chess Bookie's final net worth at the end of this leg courtesy of the 5% juice was 47,599 chessbucks. It's a living. |
| Sep-19-06 | | Touch of Knight: <Chessgames Bookie> I welcome the new rule. This game should reward skill, not luck. I admit I felt almost sinful placing huge bets on Arno Nickel playing "obvious" moves. |
| Sep-19-06 | | fersonatu: <Chessgames Bookie> I absolutely like the idea of betting caps but how are they determined? (It would be nice to know the rules before playing the game.) Thanks,
fersonatu |

 | | lostemperor: Whoa I finished 11th (can you believe that)! (and I didn't even pick 7 ... Nf6, I didn't pick anything since I had to leave that day and hoped I still have some extra time to think for the move and was leaning towards 7 ... g6 if it were not ..) I had a bad feeling about my final result (you could say I pinpointed my final ranking correctly yesterday! I have only myself to blame though. Not so much on my bettings. During the whole summerleg I made errors on my stakes. Ironically that also happened during the springleg! Congratulations you vs yourself and the runners up and thank you Chessgames Bookie. You made some changes for the better and I think the whole system is attractive and ingenious. It is fun to play win or lose. Though I have to admit it is slightly more fun to win. Oh, and you're right it is not luck. In the springleg I finished 13th and now 11th. I'd say it's rather bad luck! (but at least I'm making progress :)) |

| Sep-19-06 | | TrueBlue: Chessgames Bookie, is there a way for lostemperor to qualify instead of me, since I am already qualified? I didn't really want to participate in this event, but winning chess bucks on the Arno game was way too easy and tempting. I believe it makes sense for people who have qualified to be able to still play without taking up one of the 10 quotas. Thanks. |
| Sep-19-06 | | DCP23: <Chessgames Bookie> Could you please explain re the CheckMate bet: 'yes' means that the checkmate should be on the board (ie, the last move made ends in #) or the final position is, say, a mate in 7? |

 | | Chessgames Bookie: <<Chessgames Bookie> Could you please explain re the CheckMate bet: 'yes' means that the checkmate should be on the board (ie, the last move made ends in #) or the final position is, say, a mate in 7?> The game has to actually have a checkmate position on the board! This is very rare of course. <TrueBlue: Chessgames Bookie, is there a way for lostemperor to qualify instead of me, since I am already qualified?> That's very generous of you because it would make your winning the championship just a little bit more difficult, but if we allowed that we would have to go against something that we previously ruled on the issue. So sorry to lostemperor--maybe he will make it in the top 10 this leg. |
| Sep-19-06 | | DCP23: <Chessgames Bookie> Thanks. |
| Sep-19-06 | | you vs yourself: <Chessgames Bookie> Thanks! |
| Sep-19-06 | | soughzin: Phew 10th exactly! Good luck to everyone this time around |
Sep-19-06
 | | lostemperor: <TrueBlue> thanks for your kind offer but you won fair and square and deservingly! So did everyone else of the runner-ups. I hope to meet you this fall leg also and foremost in the winterleg possibly. |

 | | Sneaky: Who's everybody betting on for the big match? I think it's pretty much a coin flip. I wouldn't be surprised either way. I'm betting on Topalov for no other reason than because I'd like to see him win. Just 100 clams. I don't want to bet any more because I hate to have my money tied up for so long. |
