 | | Chessgames Bookie: <ATTENTION>
This leg will end on March 31. The end of the Amber Blindfold/Rapid tournament is on March 29th and may very well be the last effective date of the game, as we are unclear if there can be any wagers from March 30-31st. We will work on getting some new bets up in the next day or so. Good luck to everybody! |

| Mar-12-07 | | RonB52734: <brankat> As usual, I second what you've said. The rules are what they are. The trick is to read them in advance and then devise a system to do well in light of them. If you don't like these particular choices of rules, there's always Chutes and Ladders, which has its own set of arbitrary rules. One might as well ask why a bishop can only reach half of the squares on the board, no matter how hard it tries, when a knight can reach them all. |
| Mar-13-07 | | barbababa: <brankat> Yes, it has been fun. I think chessbookie tries to simulate real money betting and I thought the distribution of the price pool was an unintended mistake. It seems I was wrong and there really is this kind of way to deal price money. I still doubt it has been applied to chess betting ever before. Current method favours betting unlikely winners. Some might think it is good. I thing it is neither good or bad. Another thing I would change in the future legs is maximum bets. Most of the players are losing players. If you are a losing player, your best chance to win a leg is to bet everything to a winner of some tournament. For instance, 10000 chessbucks to Anand as a winner of Linares-Morelia would have given you about 30000 and almost surely a win of the winter leg. All this with only one bet. If bad players realize that their best chance to win is to invest everything to a single bet, that practically forces also the winning players to do the same, if they try to win the leg. With this kind of betting you don't really find the good players, only those who were luckiest in one or two bets. This is the first year of ChessBookie Game and I think it is possible to make it even better next year. |

| Mar-13-07 | | RonB52734: Handicappers: I've put some easy links to the last few Amber tournaments in my profile. It'll be interesting to end this leg with a tournament that appears to produce considerably fewer draws than most. |

 | | Sneaky: <barbababa> So suppose there was a round robin featuring Kramnik, Joe Blow, and myself. Kramnik's odds are 1:50, Joe Blow's odds are 100:1 and my odds are 10000:1. Somebody bets on me, and amazingly I end up in a tie for first with Kramnik. (I almost fell off my chair when he offered me a draw on move 13!) Now you say that people who bet on me would get paid very very little on their money? $100 on Sneaky would earn $101 or so, is that correct? Doesn't that seem a little unfair? Who the heck is going to bet on longshots at all, under such a system? I have no idea what the "right" answer to this is (I've never used a sportsbook in my life) but it just sort of seems to me common sense that a longshot shouldn't suddenly turn to dust just because of a tie. It's STILL an amazing result, tie or not, and you have to reward to the bettors who backed that dark horse, don't you? |

 | | Sneaky: By the way, final round of Linares... Sneaky goes all in with Big Slick.... all the money is on the draws so I bet the colors (White & Black) ... he shoots, he scores!!! Woo hoo!! #2 position!!! I'm comin' for you, User: Fredrik !! |

 | | Sneaky: <barbababa> I do agree with you--the betting limits should go DOWN at the high end of the scale, and probably could go up at the low end. Right now the richest bettors can toss all of their money around on single bets, or at the very least on single rounds. Look at me, I got to the #2 spot just betting like a lunatic and putting all my money out on one round, an "all in" round. Now in the endgame there is a little bit of strategy... should I make a risky move, and if so, how big of a move? Or maybe I want the low-risk returns, turn my $17K into $20K etc. Hmmmmm. |
| Mar-15-07 | | soughzin: Everyone might as well give it a go as this will be the last event. |
| Mar-15-07 | | Bob726: There were probaly defintly be another Shulman bet |
| Mar-15-07 | | barbababa: <Sneaky> <$100 on Sneaky would earn $101 or so, is that correct?> In case of you and Kramnik are both winners all correct winner bets would be paid according to how much was invested. 100 to you would give as much as 100 to Kramnik since they are both equally right guesses. Nothing to wrong bets and according to how much you invested to the right bets sound intuitively correct to me. <Doesn't that seem a little unfair? Who the heck is going to bet on longshots at all, under such a system?> My impression was that so far the longshots have many times had the best odds. If nobody else bets them then I will surely bet them. |
| Mar-16-07 | | soughzin: Come on guys I just put a cool 10k on Moro to win the overall Amber just to give myself a chance, now every other bet has great odds ha. |

| Mar-18-07 | | Tomlinsky: Would it be possible to have some Chessbuck activity on the RookFile vs Plato Showdown being hosted at Ziggurat chessforum ? Thank you kindly.
PS: I will be paying back what I owe you. It's been a tough few months financially, bear with me. |
| Mar-19-07 | | Jared86: Longshots:
I want to let you know that for only 4 chessbucks, I bet that Van Wely would win. Now, he won't win, but if he did, i'd make over 800 chessbucks for that 4 chessbuck bet! I'd say it was worth it. |
| Mar-20-07 | | gauer: If a player takes a loan on the 30th of this month, is his standing worth calculated by new_W = Loan_value + prev_W, or just by prev_W? Does the bookie recognize that a loan must be repaid before the end of season (hopefully he doesn't hold a grudge for next season, for those daring to test him :*) )?! Another idea, when placing a wager, has there been consideration given to a score history link between the player(s)? I sometimes open a 2nd page to view the colour-history score as well, but only the overall score history is reported to that page. Too bad there wasn't a tag to filter blitz, rapid, blind, corr, and tournament fields. |
| Mar-20-07 | | RonB52734: Yo! <Sneaky>! Look at you up there! |
| Mar-20-07 | | technical draw: I'm taking Sneaky as my doppelganger, if he wins so do I....! |

| Mar-22-07 | | RonB52734: Wow, I thought I was so smart hedging my bets between "Kramnik" and "draw" in the rapid today. Good think I didn't go "all in"! I imagine somebody made a nice chessbuck picking Ivanchuk with black :( |
| Mar-22-07 | | Bob726: YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! I bet 10,000 all my net chessbucks on a draw in Ivanchuck -krmanik blindfold and now i have almost 22,000 chessbucks! |
| Mar-24-07 | | pawnofdoom: how did some people get a negative number of chessbucks? |
