 | | Domdaniel: <Jess> No, you're right, 99% of the game development was mack's ... I'm just the concepts guy. Dr "Vic" Frankenstein |

 | | Domdaniel: Why am I neglecting my own forum tonight? Easy. We wouldn't want the millionth post accidentally made here, would we? All those popping flashbulbs, fizzing champagne corks, etc -- celebrity gives me a headache. Also, we lead a quiet, scholarly, and only slightly twisted existence here, and it's better all round if nobody notices what goes on. |
|
May-22-07
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Dom> you appear to have both anticipated and refuted my last post in <Eyal's> forum. Spooky, yet again.
WHOOOOOOOOO
(makes ghost sounds) |

May-22-07 | | mack: <OMIGOD <Dom> the bookshelf game was YOUR idea!!> Now, steady on. I've used writs before and I'm not scared to do so again. The bookshelf game: vinyl justice for social reclusives. |
|
May-22-07
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <mack> easy, we don't want to scare <dom> out of his <writs>... |
|
May-22-07
 | | Domdaniel: That was just a typo, wasn't it?
"I've used wrists before..."
I'm sure it was a typo.
It is said that a book was once banned by the Irish Censorship Board because of the letter 's'. The word 'breast', being gender-neutral, would have been acceptable, but 'breasts' was too female by half. Or by one-seventh, strictly speaking. So this book that mentioned breasts got banned. Wrists will go the same way, I'm confident. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <"I've used wrists before..."> There was that <tossing> episode with <Mack>, no? Could explain a lot...
What about <breats>? Would that be ok? Or, GREAT WHOPPING T...

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Dom> quick question on chess psychology. When I was playing in 1200-1300 range, I never played "to the bitter end" with an obviously lost position. But everyone else seemed to feel obligated to play on to actual checkmate. What is the psychological principle operating there?
Now that I'm playing at 1550-1750 range of opponents, sometimes the opposite happens. I just played a crazy open French with white against a guy who resigned in a position where I figure I had just a slight edge in the midgame. A. Did I miss something?
B. Was he just showing me undue respect?
C. Did his girlfriend just unzip his pants suddenly?
Would appreciate your opinions on these "psychological questions". |
|
May-22-07
 | | jessicafischerqueen: btw as you predicted the <Frog exchange> followed by <c4> IS paying dividends for me now that I've got my "sea legs" with the obtaining positions. thanks as always for your wonderful encouragement!!!
If I ever play in another tournament (last one was in Kindergarten- I'm 1-0 in tourneys, so I may retire), would it be legal for you to be my "Internet Second"? I could only pay approximately 0 New Pounds Stirling per hour though. Just thought I'd ask... |
|
May-22-07
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Mack> LOL
I can't even remember how that <came> about, and I'm way too lazy to go back and check. Would you consider giving me your opinion on the "chess psychology" question I just asked <Dom>? You appear to be uninsultable.
In fact, didn't you explain once to <Shropshire> that he had full permission to TRY to insult you? It's a good trait, kind of like having a suit of mail for skin. Chessica |

 | | Domdaniel: <mack> Maybe it's cos I can only do a single kind of double entendre ... not a one-track mind, more of a trackless waste. Or is that a waistless track?
Great BBC2 thing on Scott Walker about an hour ago, btw. Though personally I like the music without pictures. |

 | | Domdaniel: <Jess> Sorry, I know absolutely nothing about chess, and everything I thought I used to know was wrong. If your opponent has an extra rook but looks unhappy, play on. Even if they look happy but overconfident, play on and set traps. It's only time to resign when it's clear that they know how to win, and could do so at blitz speed without pausing to think. Does that make any sense? I wouldn't trust anything I say about chess. Now, incunabula, on the other hand... |
|
May-22-07 | | mack: Online chess isn't like real chess. More often than not you don't know who your opponent is, how strong they are, where they're playing you from, how many years they've been on the sex offenders' register etc. And because usually you've not paid to enter online tournaments, one is much more likely to pack it in halfway through a game for not-particularly-good reasons. Boredom, maybe. Jehovah's Witnesses at the door. Mum's calling for dinner. You get the idea. |
|
May-22-07
 | | Domdaniel: Incidentally, <Jess>, option 'C' is most unlikely. Very few chess players have girlfriends, and almost none have that kind of girlfriend. |
|
May-22-07
 | | jessicafischerqueen: LOL thanks for the humorous and instructive opinions, gents!! LOL offender's register.

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Dom>
Isn't this a quote from someone? I think I heard it before. Of course, it might be YOU I heard it from before.
<everything I thought I used to know was wrong.> Chess does seem to be mysterious, eh? Just like the people who play it. Maybe that's why it is the most played game in the world, by far-- the mystery... |
|
May-22-07
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Mack> thanks for your comments. I live in the woods, but there is a BCCF-sanctioned "official" chess club about 75 kilometres downriver, and I've been toying with the idea of joining. I can't remember the last OTB game i played, I've been on the Net for a year now. anyhoo, thanks for taking the time

 | | jessicafischerqueen: oh and btw lads the <bookshelf> idea turned out to be brilliant. Don't forget to check out <Ziggurat's> list- it's in his forum and it's interesting, to say the least. |

May-22-07
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Ps thank god you guys are still awake so I have some reason not to work yet. "I'll do it later"
heh |

 | | Domdaniel: <kind of like having a suit of mail for skin.> Exactly. I'd rather be spineless -- and have a nice shiny black chitinous exoskeleton -- than vice versa. Oops. Now you know I'm actually a bug-eyed monster disguised as human ('nose and toes the same way goes') you'll want to zap me with a laser beam or dissolve my polysaccharides, or something. |

May-22-07 | | JoeWms: I was trolling through Dom’s site one night,
In the merry merry month of -- <I forget what month it is that rhymes with night.> I post here because it seems as though on <CG.com> all toads lead to Dom. Everyone stops here: <Jessica>, <Eyal>, and that other English prof (who/whom/that) I ain’t sparred with yet – you know who I mean: the fellow who took his username from the initials he saw on a Samsonite going ‘round the carousel. <Dom>, it was a curious spelling beast posted here on May 20 by our dear friend <twinlark> that goosed me outta my shell. <twinlark: JoeWms, say something for krisake, yer givin’ me hives.> Er, have you tried calamine lotion? Good buddy, will it do if I simply put it that I went to bed and pulled the covers over my head? I had no more creative outlet to sustain me. My funny bone ossified the same as I’d. <Gee, that one made even Ogden gnash his teeth.> All I could do was leer at the callipygian delights on the beach a couple of blocks away. (I invite newbie lurkers to search <callipygian> for some fun posts.) It was a world of fun when you and Dom, and <WannaBe> and I – a half dozen more, too – would pounce on a weirdo like <tintinnabulation> and worry it for a day or two. My, how I do ramble. I’ll post a bit more three hours from now. Don’t worry, Dom & Co., I don’t plan to squat on your site. |
|
May-22-07
 | | jessicafischerqueen: Hi <Joe> you seem in good spirits!! <all toads lead to Dom> How true, and also how appropriate since <Dom> generously turned his forum into an online chess journal named <Frogspawn> |
|
May-22-07
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Dom> bug eyed monster Yeesh you're reminding me of that TERRIFYING scene in <Cronenberg's> naked lunch, and I think you know the scene-- Horror... true horror, the kind that stays with you.
And we like this because??
Who knows. |
|
May-23-07 | | twinlark: <joewms>
No, but I have this pal’o’mine notion that's supposed to be just as good. <will it do if I simply put it that I went to bed and pulled the covers over my head?> If it helped. Don’t be stranger...you know where I live. |
